As you know, at Herb & Soul, every full moon is medicine making day! πŸ’šπŸŒΏπŸŒ
I just wanted to share with you that for me, the sheer, unmatched beauty of the plants during the harvesting and medicine making process is JUST AS THERAPEUTIC as the actual finished medicines themselves. An absolute joy to say the least.

I've had an amazing day with my plants and a couple of lovely people who have come to seek help with their health through these incredible herbal medicines. The plants are working deeply on me with my own health journey too, which is building my relationship and trust with them to an even higher level.

I am so grateful for the trust that people and plants have in me. It's truly a privilege to do this work.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Very grateful and honoured to be a part of the amazing project 'Befana & The Magical Tea Trolley'.
A series of herbal workshops for kids (and teachers/parents!) run by talented theatre director Amie Burns Walker, who invited me to collaborate on this enrichment programme in schools, libraries and other community gathering places. Amie plays the hilarious role of Befana (the herbal witch!) and has taken me alongside her to teach and create with our local medicinal herbs.
I have to say how inspired I've been by this work so far, and also how I'm blown away by the engagement of the kids and what they've created with this new knowledge (some already being little herbalist beings that have taught me a few things!).

Amie and I had a lovely afternoon yesterday foraging for the upcoming sessions on July 30th at Corstorphine Library and then August 3rd at Stockbridge Library!
Thank you to Ormiston Primary School for the last round of workshops which was alot of fun. The potions made were superb! πŸŒΈπŸ’–

🌿🌼 Whenever I'm on a new land, I connect with it by picking some of the abundant healing herbs and brewing up a tea to ingest. It's my way of getting that energy into my body and mind.🌿🏡

I'm on a teeny island off the west coast of Scotland called Great Cumbrae, nestled close to the bigger isles of Arran & Bute. Blooming like clouds of fairy dust all the way along the shores of this island is the very pretty Meadowsweet!

With scents of almond, honey and vanilla, Meadowsweet is a plant that changed medicine forever. The main compound is salicylic acid, which was taken in modern medicine and used as one of the plants that created aspirin (take note that it's now synthetic and not the compound from Meadowsweet or other plants!). It's effective in headaches, inflammation and pain relief (aswell as having many more wonderful attributes!).

It's a really revered plant in ancient history, folklore and herbalism and if you've ever caught a sweet scent brushing past you it may well have been the magnificent Meadowsweet. Look for its frothy cream flowers growing in damp places, the aroma is unforgettable! It makes an incredible cordial and an even better Mead!

So.... I'm sitting on the shore where I harvested it (scroll for the view by the way!), and will be thankful to have this beautiful plant medicine with me tonight. I'll be harvesting some to make a pain relief remedy with, and with the beauty of this gorgeous island in there I am so excited to work with Meadowsweet!

Whats in my medicine basket on this Midsummer Full Moon? πŸŒΈπŸŒ™

Every Full moon is a non-negotiable day in my healing herb garden... being slow with the plants, listening to them, harvesting and medicine making. It's a powerful time - we're harnessing the power of the moon that strengthens the healing within the plants!
I've got some bespoke medicines to make for people, so had a BEAUTIFUL day harvesting some of my herbs to go into my remedy making tonight. Take a peek inside my basket with me...
WHAT YOU CAN SEE:
Calendula 🌼
Lemon Balm 🌿
Yarrow 🌱
Hyssop πŸ’™
Feverfew 🌸

WHAT YOU CAN'T SEE:
Garlic (not the prettiest but a potent medicine!!)
A huge bundle of Sage (for energetic cleansing) πŸƒ
Lots of fruit & veg (because good home grown organic food IS medicine!)

[Β  ] Tonight I'll be making infusions, tea blends, skin healing ointments, energy clearing sacred smoke medicines and tinctures, all for specific people and their needs πŸ™

It's so hard to keep up with the abundance in the summer, but that's the beauty of nature - there's enough for everyone, and WAY more! I am in awe and so grateful for what I can grow and heal with these amazing beings. And I, myself, get so much gentleness and healing spending time in my space with the plants.
Thank you to everyone who trusts me to be the alchemist who can get their medicines to them. I mean that with all my heart! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™β™₯️

Friends!!! Today I go hiking in the Albanian Alps. What's fuelling my way? Some of the Alpine cousins of our very own healing plants! πŸ’šπŸŒΏ

NETTLE, ELDER, CALENDULA, ALPINE STRAWBERRY, CLEAVERS & MINT all went into my cup of strong energising tea this morning, much to the delight and amazement of the Albanian family I stayed with!

Whenever I go to a new land, I connect with that place by picking wild herbs and making a strong tea to ingest. I wonder what these plants will offer being in a different climate to the same plants I use for medicines in Scotland. Let's see.
And off we go!!! ⛰️⛰️⛰️
