Port Edgar Dragons

Port Edgar Dragons We are a cancer survivor’s Dragon Boat Paddling Team based at Bridge 8 Hub on the Union Canal in Edinburgh and at Lochore Meadows Country Park in Fife.

Port Edgar Dragons - a group of cancer survivors and their supporters in the Edinburgh and Fife areas offering dragon boating as an aid to recovery from treatment. The team has been established with support from the Paddlers for Life dragon boat paddlers cancer survivor network. Dragon Boat paddling is a fun way to build health and wellbeing after a cancer diagnosis. We are predominantly breast ca

ncer survivors. Dragonboat paddling has been proven to help with recovery and well being after treatment for breast cancer (see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breast_cancer_survivors%27_dragon_boating)

A windy, challenging but fun paddle today!
Our new (and old 😳) paddlers did really well practising their catch and recovery and we ‘rescued’ 4 items from the canal (2 lost balls, Ray’s cap and a blown away buoyancy aid!!)
It was lovely to see Anne W and Anne G for coffee after our paddle 💕💕🎏

What a fantastic day we had yesterday!
Manchester Dragoneers came to visit us and we had both of our boats on the water together for the first time in a very long time!
We were lucky with the weather - there was very little wind!
We balanced the boat for our crew going to France for the IBCPC event in August and practiced our racing start.
We planned to have some races between the two boats but found that a full crew on our 22 man boat (Isla Mae) was considerably faster than our 12 man boat (Emma) with only 8 on board (despite Emma being a racing boat and Isla Mae being very heavy - built for strength rather than speed!!)
Thank you to Flad for helming Emma, Lindsey for drumming (and shouting 🤣❤️), all the people who helped load Emma onto her road trailer and put her back to bed at Bridge 8 at the end of the day, to Stewart for towing Emma, for Manchester Dragoneers for travelling to see us (especially the three birthday girls - many happy returns to you all!! ❤️❤️❤️) and last but very much not least enormous thanks to Pauline for organising everything ❤️)
Also thank you to Fiona, Ali and Sharon for the photos!!

Fun Thursday paddling at Bridge 8 and shortened paddle due to the wind on Saturday at Lochore Meadows!
Many thanks to Iain for fixing the wheel on Emma’s launching trolley!
It was lovely to meet Jelimo who did really well in challenging conditions for her first time on a dragonboat!!

Gliding forward with rhythm, trust, and unity.
Dragon boat is more than a sport — it’s the power of moving as one. 🌊🐉✨

Thursday evening and Saturday morning paddling from the week just gone by 💕
It was scheduled to be at Lochore on Saturday but we were several paddlers down due to illness and an unfortunate accident 😢
Take it easy and get well soon to all our poorly members 🫂🥰
Thank you to Petra and Flad for helming and well done to the brave paddlers for turning up despite the chilly weather!!
Thank you Fiona for the photos ###

Thursday evening and Saturday paddling at Bridge 8.
A beautiful, warm and sunny week - where better to be than out on the water in a dragon boat? 💕💕💕
The swans have a new little family - they are so very cute!!
We were so happy to have Anne G back on board after a long spell of ill health and to have a catch up at Riccarton Garden Centre with Anne W - fantastic to see you both 🤗
Thank you to Ray, Ruth and Fiona for the photos 💕

Very excited to have nearly a full boat at Lochore Meadows today!
We worked on timing and racing starts and getting used to being in our full size boat.
It was a cool cloudy day to start but the sun started to break through as we put Isla Mae away.
It was great to see our new paddlers, Nicki, Nicole and Sadia back on board and thank you to lead paddlers Ray and Erica and to Helen for helming and for her support and encouragement!
Thank you to Fiona, Ray and Flad for the photos ❤️
