A parent recently came to me because their seven year old was struggling with a pattern that was becoming more difficult each week:
* daily meltdowns after school (often over very small triggers)
* bedtime taking over an hour, with restlessness and difficulty settling
* increasing rigidity, irritability, and emotional reactivity
Initially it looked like behaviour problems that were gradually escalating, though what stood out wasn’t only what was happening but the pattern underneath it.
A child who was coping all day at school, then struggling to regulate once they got home where they finally felt safe enough to release everything.
This is a very common pattern in children with ADHD-type traits, emotional sensitivity, or nervous system overload.
Many parents are given strategies that focus on managing behaviour in the moment like reward systems, consequences, routines, or coping tools.
These might sometimes help short-term, but they don’t always address why the regulation system is overwhelmed in the first place.
In my work as a homeopath, I look at the child in a more complete way.
The aim is to understand the child as a whole individual, not only isolated behaviours, but how they respond to stress, stimulation, and emotional load as a whole.
From there, I look at things like:
* how they respond to stress and everyday demands
* how quickly they become overwhelmed
* how they recover emotionally after difficult moments
* sleep patterns, sensitivity, and emotional regulation
From this perspective, support is directed at helping the child become more regulated over time, rather than only managing behaviours in the moment.
If this sounds familiar for your child, you can message me ‘Interested’ and I’ll reply with a few questions about your child and guide you on whether I can help and what the next step would look like.
