Support for those on weight loss medications: Part 1.

As some of you may know as well as being a nutritional therapist, I am also a pharmacist and have been for the last 20 years.

I have seen a lot of change over this period of time, one of which is the considerable rise in the rate of prescribing of weight loss medications.

Whilst I know they can be an effective tool for some people, I also believe that it is important that they are part of a 360 approach.

It should not be a case of just receiving a prescription. You also need support in nutrition and lifestyle to minimise side effects, maintain overall health and set up a plan for treatment discontinuation.

This support should include:

🍎 Nutritional planning to avoid insufficiencies in key nutrients which can lead to side effects and potential longer term implications

🏃🏼‍♂️‍➡️ Advice on exercise and movement to support maintaining muscle and cardiovascular fitness

🧠 Mindset strategies covering emotional eating

👩‍⚕️ Knowledge on how the medication works and the physiological changes which may affect weight regain on stopping

If you are currently prescribed or considering stopping an injection for weight loss and would like support please get in touch via the link above or email [email protected]

Webinar series testimonial 👩‍💻 Triathlon Scotland

I had the pleasure of being invited to present a series of 3 webinars to the members of Triathlon Scotland.

I covered:

• Integrative fuelling and gut health for triathletes 🏊🏻

• Nutrition for women in triathlon at different life stages. Covering training and nutrition around your cycle, key nutrients both macro and micro, pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause and menopause 🚴🏻‍♀️

• Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport: REDs 🏃‍♀️

Fantastic to receive such positive feedback and lovely to hear the members enjoyed the webinars as much as I did.

If your business or sports club are interested in organising a similar event please send me an email at [email protected]

Explorr Half Marathon completed 🥳

Not only that, but my first ever half marathon 😱

This is something I never thought I could achieve.

At first it was a belief that I couldn’t run 5km without stopping, then I thought I couldn’t run 10km without having an asthma attack, but somehow I found myself running a half marathon on Sunday.

My goal was to complete it in 2 and a half hours, but if I’m honest I just wanted to enjoy it and not get stressed about any particular time.

Crossing the finishing line I managed to hold it together (just) but it’s an emotional feeling when you accomplish something you never thought you’d achieve.

So what helped me to accomplish this goal?

~ the support of my friends and loved ones. Their constant positive messages and belief in me kept me going ♥️

~ consistency with my training and recovery 🧘🏼‍♀️

~ my nutrition and hydration strategy both on the day and beforehand 🥯

~ remembering to keep smiling and enjoy it 😁

~ the marshals on the day. In particular the Tellytubbies at 17 and 18km. Just what I needed 🤣

~ music. The playlist kept me motivated on the hills, although Kate Bush was not on there. 🎶

~ the incredible views. Banchory is a stunning setting for a trail run. 🏃‍♀️

If you have a goal. Anything is possible. You just need to believe in yourself. ✨

Back in my happy place 🥾 ♥️

Ben Lawers Range 🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏕️🏔️🏔️

One of my life goals is to complete all of the Munros.

In 2024 I managed to tick off 34 and for one reason or another the mountains fell off my priority list last year.

But I have decided that I miss them and the feeling I get from escaping to the hills.

Maybe escaping isn’t the right word, but despite the massive bag on my back, the moment I set foot on a hike I feel like a weight is being lifted.

Day to day worries fade away and are replaced with being present in the moment.

The mountains challenge me.

They build resilience and strength, both physically and mentally.

They bring new faces and stories from others on their own adventure.

They bring smiles, tears, laughter and memories.

Not every hike goes according to plan, but that reminds me to be adaptable and helps me to learn and grow.

For me completing the Munros is not just a tick box exercise. It’s a way of challenging myself, exploring Scotland and filling my free time with new adventures.

I hope you’ll enjoy sharing the experiences with me along the way and that it might inspire you to go on your own adventures ☺️
