Some children hold it together all day at school… only to completely unravel the moment they get home.

Not because home is the problem, but because it’s the first place they finally feel safe enough to let go.

The Exchange and Neuropathways Clinic are coming together for an important online session exploring after school restraint collapse and why so many neurodivergent children and young people experience emotional exhaustion, overwhelm, meltdowns or shutdowns after the school day ends.

This workshop will help families better understand what’s happening beneath the surface, why these patterns occur, and practical ways to support children more compassionately and effectively at home.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering “Why are they fine at school but falling apart at home?” this session is for you.

A day very well spent on Saturday at a CPD training in Somatic Resourcing with baxter.

We learned about using techniques with clients that will support them in up and down regulating nervous system states, moving emotion like anger through the body and accessing their power. We got to try out all of the techniques suggested and I came away with so much wisdom from Mhari who is highly skilled as a dance movement psychotherapy practitioner, and so generous.

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend attending one her future trainings.

One of the great 'tricks' of is that the powerlessness that we experienced at the time persists and we end up believing (quite understandably) that we are powerless ever to recover.

This is Room to Bloom, an independent florist in my town of Elgin. They have gone and put together a lovely window display featuring many of the wonderful small businesses we are lucky to have here. What a brilliant and generous gesture, to showcase businesses in these tricky times, and keep championing the message of 'Buy local'.

I try to shop and use small businesses as much as I can, more and more these days. I don't want our high street to go the way of so many others with chain stores or charity shops and none of the profits staying in the area.

I handed my card in too as I too am a small business! And I appreciate the support I get from fellow therapists and associated industry practitioners. We also face undermining of what we do by big faceless companies like Better Help who pay so poorly and treat therapists services like a commodity to profit from. And they have the massive marketing budgets that most of us therapists don't.

Anyway, I hope this post inspires you to support local where you can.

Why do conflicts make relationships stronger?

Such a juicy topic!

I have shared this animated video below which is only 7 minutes and well worth a watch as it breaks down the 'why' of conflict being a crucial component in relationship.

Conflict is something that so many struggle with and turn away from, but it actually serves a really healthy function in all relationships.

Let me know what you think of the video.

COUNSELLING NEWS 📰

I have branched out to work specifically with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) as this is a hugely under-served and misunderstood area in psychological therapies. It is currently the most common eating disorder experienced in the UK.

I have updated my Counselling Directory profile to reflect this, and will be advertising it through my website shortly.

Please share if you know anyone who is looking for this support, or share more generally if you feel inclined!

Thanks

Katherine

A useful resource I have had saved on my phone for the last 5 years!
I use it a lot and refer to it for clients too. Sometimes we just need some ideas for how to get us out of an activated or dysregulated state.
