Ayurveda Food UK 2
Cooling Breakfast on a Warm Summer Morning 🌞 We take a popular breakfast item from Sri Lanka.

Mung dhal or Green Gram is a tasty high protein food item that has cooling properties.
It is Madhura in taste and Seeta in vipaka (post digestion). Ads Kapha element to the body increasing moisture, hydration from within and also improves Ojas - body energy.

For Kapha Prakriti persons if you have tendency to be phlegmy, it is better to have this in boiled form combined with a heaty accompaniment like Lunu Miris (Sri Lankan chilli paste). The heat of the chillies balances out the cold of the Mung dhal.

To give it extra cooling property you can have boiled Mung dhal with scraped Coconut.

There are many ways to prepare Mung dhal. A follow up post will show how to prepare boiled Mung dhal for a simple, high protein, cooling breakfast.

Making fruit soda without adding fizz but by fermenting!
Big thanks to for sharing this video with us and letting us taste this wonderful drink 🥤
Check out the next video (also on my story) Ayurveda food review on health factors of this drink

Following up with the fabulous ferment made by on her video, I had the pleasure to try it out.
This fermented drink is sweet in flavour which is Kapha but has a heaty after taste which is Pita. So it is a good balance of both cold and hot doshas.

What makes it a cooling drink is in the digesting process it has a Madhura paaka and Sheet veerya. That means it is sweet in the post digestion and creates a cooling effect to the body.

Although it has acidic fruits and hot ginger, because of the blend of sugar and pears & after the fermentation process this drink becomes a cooling drink.

Since its without added fizz and only with natural gases from the fermentation the Vata element is mild and helps with improving the digestion. Collaborating with Pita rather than aggravating it.

The cooling post digestion and mild Vata makes this drink a suitable summer drink especially for those with high acid conditions such as gastric regurgitation, bloating and heart burns.

Of course for further information on your particular condition it would be advisable to consult your Ayurveda Practitioner as Ayurveda treats each and every person's individual condition.

Given the qualities and characteristics mentioned above this drink can be used in your summer BBQ menu with all the other heaty, fried up, oily greasy foods you would consume. Also good with salads with heavy dressings, cottage pies or shepherd's pies and even with lasagne & heavy sauced up and cheesed up pasta dishes. Perfect for football watching with the burgers, pizzas, hot dogs, chips and other fast foods (although they are not recommended in Ayurveda).
