Big emotions are part of being human. Disappointment, frustration, anger, and stress are feelings we all experience. But abuse is never an acceptable response to those feelings.
Research has found that reports of domestic abuse can increase by 38% during major sporting tournaments, particularly after highly emotional matches. While sport doesn't cause abuse, heightened emotions can become a trigger where patterns of coercion, control, or violence already exist.
Feeling angry is normal.
Choosing to intimidate, threaten, control, or harm someone is not.
If you're struggling to manage intense emotions, support is available. If you don't feel safe at home, support is available.
No result on the pitch should ever put someone at risk behind closed doors.
