Four weeks today. 🦵🏼✨ Four weeks post ACL + meniscus surgery.
And honestly, the surgery is only one part of the story.
The year leading up to it was probably one of the most challenging years of my life. I spent months injured, living with the uncertainty of when surgery would happen, not knowing how to plan my life around it, what it meant for my career, or whether I’d ever get back to wrestling again. 🤼🏻♀️
It felt like life hit me like a sack of bricks the moment I did my knee.
I started questioning everything. My age. Where I was in life. What I actually wanted. Where I was going. Who I was becoming.
And the truth is, I was already burnt out before the injury happened. My body was giving me signs everywhere skin issues, digestive problems, exhaustion, and just feeling completely depleted. Then I did my knee, and it felt like the final straw.
Like life was saying: Right…Now you’re going to stop. 🛑
And when I was forced to stop, I realised just how much I had been running on empty.
I fell out of love with a lot of things. I lost my sense of direction. I didn’t know what I wanted anymore. And being forced into stillness gave me a lot of time to sit with questions I’d probably been avoiding for a long time.
Then came surgery.
And strangely, despite knowing I had a long road ahead, there was a sense of relief. Finally, there was a plan. Finally, I could start moving forwards. 🫶🏼
Four weeks in, I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I’ve probably got another 6–8 months of hard work ahead of me, and yes, I’m absolutely aiming to beat that “one year” timeline. 😅
But I’m learning that recovery isn’t just about rebuilding a knee.
It’s about rebuilding yourself.
It’s about what you do when life forces you to stop. How you use the setbacks. How you challenge the perspective you had before. How you come out of a season that broke parts of you with a better understanding of who you are and what actually matters.
I don’t know exactly where this road is going to take me yet.
But for the first time in a long time, I’m excited to find out. 🤍
