Such a beautiful day with old friends and new ones at the Blossom Tree Clinic | Totnes learning the art of nurturing the first 40 days after birth through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine ✨

We spent the day exploring the importance of postpartum recovery, a time that many traditional cultures view as sacred and essential for a mother’s long-term wellbeing. In Chinese medicine, the weeks after birth are seen as a period of rebuilding, restoring energy, warmth, and balance after the incredible physical and emotional work of pregnancy and birth.

One of the fascinating things we learned about was the use of a moxa box. Moxibustion uses dried mugwort (mugweed) to gently warm specific areas of the body. Traditionally, this warming therapy is used to support circulation, replenish energy, and encourage healing during the postpartum period.

We also explored the role of nourishing foods in recovery. Traditional postpartum nutrition focuses on warm, nutrient-dense meals and ingredients believed to support blood replenishment and circulation after birth. Foods such as dark leafy greens, beetroot, dates, warming broths, ginger, and iron-rich foods are often valued for supporting both physical recovery and emotional wellbeing during this transition.

What I love about these traditions is the reminder that mothers deserve care too. So much attention is placed on preparing for birth, but these teachings highlight the importance of rest, nourishment, warmth, and support in the weeks that follow.

The first 40 days are not about “bouncing back” they are about healing, replenishing, and being held while you adjust to life with your baby. ❤️

The things that bring me joy are rarely the most obvious parts of my life. They’re the little rituals, the moments that make time slow down, the people, places, and passions that remind me who I am beneath all the roles I play.

I’ve realised that joy isn’t something I have to chase, it’s like a compass. Every time I follow what lights me up, I find my way back home to myself.

Running with the dogs (even in the rain). Working alongside clients on their own sacred journey of life. Resting on the yoga mat after I’ve journeyed with my body through asanas. Stepping into my imagination and allowing it to pour onto the page. Watching my children interact and smile. Having dinner with the family around the table. The list is long and I could go on.

These moments don’t just make me happy. They reconnect me to the version of me that feels most true.
I have made a conscious effort to bring my work in to alignment with what brings me joy as well as look at what I’m grateful for daily.

May we all make more space for the things that bring us home. How will you honour your one precious life as you and find your way home?

Your body is always responding to the life you give it. The way you move, the food you eat, the people you surround yourself with, and the habits you practice each day can either support your healing or work against it.

When unexpected challenges strike, our practices already in place will buffer our body so when we call on more
tools or up our game / change our lifestyle or whatever we need, our mind and body will respond more efficiently.

One of the most powerful things you can do for yourself is to stay curious about your own needs. Listen. Notice. Pay attention. Then honour what you discover through action.

I’ve been listening to my body’s needs for 27 years and I’m still learning, still discovering and I know I am stronger, wiser, more compassionate towards myself for it.

Healing isn’t found in perfection—it’s found in the daily choices that bring you back to yourself.

✨ Be curious. Be honest. Take action.

Gentle Pregnancy Yoga 🤍

Come and take an hour for yourself each Monday evening in our warm and cosy studio space. These classes are designed to help you slow down, breathe, move gently and feel supported throughout your pregnancy.

We begin with a calming herbal tea and a relaxed check-in — a chance to chat, share, ask questions or simply connect with other mums-to-be. We then move through gentle stretches and exercises for the whole body, helping the pelvis to stay balanced, toned and relaxed, whilst also easing tension and supporting your changing body through pregnancy.

We also explore the biomechanics of birth, and everything we work through in these classes is designed to help give you tools, confidence and information for birth, whilst also preparing the body to accommodate your baby and encourage optimal positioning.

The classes are small, welcoming and suitable for all abilities from 14 weeks gestation, with all equipment provided — you just need to bring yourself 🤍
