We can only ever do our best. Sometimes this will be more one day than another day. Take time for yourself. Pick one thing you have achieved today or one positive thing about the day. You are doing a good job.

I’m asked this question so often, particularly when women are breastfeeding. Health professionals often focus heavily on weight gain, which is important, however it is equally as important to review the whole picture, and provide feeding support. One of my favourite moments when I give feeding support is watching parents have a light bulb moment when I show them how to look for swallowing when their baby is at the breast. It’s so reassuring to see swallowing as a baby can’t swallow if they don’t have milk in their mouth so you know they are drinking!
