Final destination of This Place Meant - a sound pilgrimage of Kent's heritage.

We end our journey at Kings Wood, Kent Downs, alongside artists Laura Burns & Alison Neighbour.

🗓️ Saturday 6th June
7pm - arrivals at carpark
7.15pm - walk departs
8pm - soundbath
8.45pm - return walk
9.15pm - arrive back at carpark

For our 11th and final destination we will journey in human-silence through the beautiful Kings Wood, letting the sounds and textures of the woods guide us, and making gentle tactile connections with the environment as we travel towards our secret soundbath location.

After the soundbath, we will return the way we came, as dusk falls and the woods settle into their night-time rhythm.

We are grateful for what has been an incredible journey, and feels right that we end it deep in the woods, the oldest of places.
Come and join us.

About the artists

Alison Neighbour
Alison is a Welsh artist working across scenography, performance, installation, and journeys. Her practice is influenced by our relationship to the rest of the natural world, and by stories of material, place, and time that begin with the site and the moment. Her practice is deeply collaborative, with participation and the embodied relationship of the audience/viewer at the heart of her work.

Laura Burns
Laura Burns is a multidisciplinary artist working with embodied knowing in listening to land and its relations. Sound is their primary way of resonating and communicating with place - both its visible and less visible presences. Their work spans performance, textiles, film, writing and working with wild/foraged materials.

For our 10th destination we have assemble a set of amazing musicians from London Contemporary Voices with a connection to Kent, including singers, double bass and drum players.
Taking place outdoors within the ruins of Reculver, we pay homage to the land and cultures that shaped Kent.

On the edge between land and sea, Reculver Towers and Roman Fort are one of Kent’s most striking coastal landmarks, featuring the iconic twin towers of a 12th-century church set within the remains of an ancient 2000 year old Roman fort. Overlooking the North Kent coastline, the site has a rich history spanning Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval periods.

You are welcome to seat, lay down or wonder for this one :)

For our first ever cathedral stop we are joined by an amazing group of artists:

Ilã - Our third artist in residency and previous collaborator is an artist, producer, and vocalistopretaing at the intersection of quantum computer music, AI, and human voice — crafting immersive sonic worlds that question identity and liberation. As co-founder and director of London Contemporary Voices, ILĀ has collaborated with over 20 Grammy-winning artists including Imogen Heap, Alt-J, and Sam Smith, as well as the orchestral collaboration Florence + The Machine & The Jules Buckley Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.

Alice Phelps - Alice composes from the harp and the violin, creating orchestral and choral pieces reflecting on past and present experiences she has herself come across or witnessed from afar. After a sell out show for the release of her first record at the legendary Passing Clouds venue she has taken London by storm playing at the Union Chapel, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Ronnie Scott’s and the Rich Mix. She can be found every Sunday afternoon at the much acclaimed venue the Jamboree performing with Londons top jazz musicians.

London Contemporary Voices (2 singers joining us) - London Contemporary Voices (LCV) is a world-leading alternative choir with a unique contemporary sound founded by ILĀ and Didier Rochard for Grammy winning artist Imogen Heap's concert Love The Earth at Royal Albert Hall in 2010.

Rochester Cathedral
Rochester Cathedral, founded in 604 AD by Augustine of Canterbury, is England’s second-oldest cathedral and a striking example of Norman architecture. Set in the historic city of Rochester beside the River Medway, the cathedral has endured Viking raids, fires, and centuries of change.

Join us for an epic sound exploration at the heart of Rochester
