Holding a warm cup of coffee or turning a heavy door handle shouldn’t send a sharp, aching pain through the pinky side of your wrist.

If you’ve noticed persistent pain, aching or clicking when twisting your wrist, you may be experiencing irritation or degenerative changes within the TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) — an important structure that helps support and stabilise the wrist.

Over time, degenerative changes within the TFCC can contribute to ulnar-sided wrist pain and make everyday activities such as gripping, lifting and twisting increasingly uncomfortable.

The good news? Injections or surgery aren’t always required. Where appropriate, conservative management is recommended as first-line treatment, which may include activity modification, splinting and targeted hand therapy to help reduce pain, improve wrist stability and strength, and restore function.
If pain on the pinky side of your wrist is holding you back in Rochester, Rainham or across Medway, let’s get it looked at.

When hand or wrist pain starts holding you back, simply knowing what is going on—and having a clear plan to fix it—changes everything. 💡

A recent patient, Martin, came to my clinic feeling unsure about his recovery. My priority was to look at the whole picture—taking time to understand his health history, daily routine, and exact hand function. I worked with him to build a practical, step-by-step treatment plan so he knew precisely how to manage his recovery at home and get back to living comfortably.

Here is what Martin kindly shared about his experience:
"I found Alex to be friendly personable and professional. He reviewed my history, personal situation and my hand itself all extremely thoroughly and provided very actionable and practical advice and care. I left feeling confident and reassured. Full marks. Thank you Alex."

Whether you are struggling to turn a door handle, type without pain, or grip everyday objects, I am here to give you expert guidance and clear, practical care.
If you are looking for dedicated hand therapy in Medway or specialised wrist pain treatment in Kent, let's get you feeling confident about your recovery again.

from a wrist fusion surgery and wondering what comes next?
A wrist fusion is a major procedure designed to eliminate severe pain by fusing the wrist bones together. While it provides incredible pain relief, your hand, fingers, and forearm need structured rehabilitation to adapt to the change and rebuild functional strength.
Post-operative recovery is my speciality. I guide patients through careful scar management, finger and thumb mobilisation exercises, and adaptive strategies to help you regain full confidence in your daily tasks — from typing to carrying groceries.
If you've recently had wrist surgery in Medway or the surrounding areas, dedicated rehabilitation is key to your long-term success.

Morning stiffness, a deep dull ache, and a loss of grip strength... Wrist osteoarthritis can make even the simplest daily routines feel like a mountain to climb.

As the protective cartilage in your wrist joint reduces, the joint becomes overused and inflamed, leading to pain and stiffness. I can't reverse arthritis, but I can significantly reduce your pain and protect your joint function.

In my Medway area clinic, I support patients through:
->Custom daytime or night-time splints to support the joint
->Gentle joint mobilisation and heat therapy to ease stiffness
->Targeted strengthening exercises to build support around the wrist

You don't have to give up your hobbies or struggle through daily chores. Let's get your hands moving comfortably again.

It's not just the thumb that triggers! Finger can also trigger to! And no it is not relating to using a gun trigger!
Is your finger clicking, catching, or getting stuck when you try to open your hand?

You might be experiencing Trigger Finger. This happens when the tendon that bends your finger becomes inflamed and struggles to glide smoothly through its protective sheath. It often leads to a painful popping sensation, stiffness in the morning, or a finger locked in a bent position.

The good news? Surgery isn't always the first answer. I regularly treat this in clinic using custom-fitted splints to rest the tendon, combined with targeted exercise and massage programs.

If you are dealing with a clicking or locked finger, early assessment makes a massive difference to your recovery time.

"I couldn't hold a cup of tea without sharp thumb pain. Now I can spend the morning in the garden, pain-free."

This is the kind of transformation I see often—and it's why I do what I do.

Patients coming to my clinic in Hempstead after a CMCJ dual mobility thumb joint replacement are often hesitant at first. It's common to worry about damaging the new implant, or feel frustrated by how weak the hand feels in the early weeks after surgery.

That's where a structured, step-by-step hand therapy plan makes the difference. We start with gentle scar management and splinting to protect the joint, then gradually progress to functional exercises that rebuild pinch and grip strength safely.
Watching patients get back to gardening, writing comfortably, and living independently again is the ultimate win. Post-surgical rehab isn't just about exercises—it's about getting your life back.

Living with severe thumb base pain? You might assume a weak grip is something you just have to accept. There's a surgical option you might not have heard about—and specialised recovery makes all the difference.

Thumb base osteoarthritis (at the carpometacarpal or CMC joint) can make everyday tasks like opening a jam jar, turning a key, or writing feel almost impossible. For severe cases where conservative care isn't enough, a CMCJ Dual Mobility Joint Replacement offers an alternative to traditional joint fusion or excision.

This modern implant replaces the arthritic thumb joint, designed specifically to provide both stability and a smooth, natural range of motion. But surgery is only half the journey.

That's where my hand therapy clinic comes in. Following your procedure, I fit and provide splints to protect the new joint while guiding you through tailored range-of-motion and strengthening exercises. My goal is to help you safely rebuild your pinch strength, reduce post-operative swelling, and lower the risk of complications—so you can get back to doing what you love without fear.

If you're preparing for or recovering from thumb surgery in the Medway, Swale or Maidstone areas, expert rehabilitation is key to getting the best long-term outcome.

Need specialist guidance for thumb pain or post-surgery recovery? Book an assessment with me today—early rehab input often makes the biggest difference.
