This is quite a different post from me today, as it’s the first time I’ve shared these last photos of Lauren, and I would really appreciate it if you could kindly tag or share anyone you know who might be able to help.

They show her getting her hand cast done, holding Darcy’s hand, and with little Mia’s Cinderella doll, which she took up to heaven with her, still in her hand.

I’m looking for advice on memorial keepsakes or hand casting.

I would like to see if it could be made into something more detailed and memorable — something that captures our final moments with her and makes them lasting.

If anyone knows of artists, companies, or specialists (especially in the UK/Scotland), I would be so grateful for any recommendations.

Thank you for reading and for any help 💙

🌩️ THUNDERSTORM ASTHMA 🌩️

Most people in the UK have never heard of thunderstorm asthma, but it can be dangerous and even life-threatening.

During thunderstorms, grass pollen can be broken into tiny particles that are inhaled deep into the lungs, triggering severe asthma symptoms and breathing difficulties.

Those most at risk include people with asthma, hay fever, grass pollen allergies, and even some people who have never been diagnosed with asthma.

As we move through pollen season, it’s important to:
✔️ Check pollen forecasts
✔️ Carry your reliever inhaler
✔️ Follow your asthma action plan
✔️ Seek help if symptoms worsen

Awareness can save lives. Please share to help others learn about this little-known risk.

SOMETIMES ITS BITTERSWEET TODAY…..

The link below is for an interview with the daily record telling my story.

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/mum-who-cheated-death-during-35711834.amp

13 years ago today, right at this moment, I was waking up after a massive bowel cancer operation. What was meant to be a 2-hour surgery turned into 9 hours, and my mum and kids were beside themselves with worry.

My surgeon, Dr Graham, was absolutely phenomenal and I will never forget what he did for me. After everything, I lost my fallopian tube, my appendix, my right o***y, and at just 37 years old I had the choice of more children taken from me but thankfully I didn’t need a stoma bag in the end.

People like Adele Roberts have helped make stomas far less of a taboo or embarrassment, and that awareness means so much to so many people.

What followed was 5 long hard months of weekly chemo, but I never took the 6th month because I was determined to tell my kids I was discharged cancer free for Christmas 2013.

Life has since brought heartbreak I could never have imagined. I would swap places in a heartbeat if it meant Lauren could still be here. But all we can do is take each day step by step and keep going for the people we love.

Please, if you notice changes in your body, especially:
• Blood in your poo
• Changes in bowel habits
• Ongoing stomach pain or bloating
• Unexplained weight loss
• Extreme tiredness

GET IT CHECKED. Don’t sit in fear. Early diagnosis saves lives.

In the UK, bowel cancer is the 4th most common cancer and around 1 in 15 men and 1 in 18 women will be diagnosed during their lifetime. More than 9 in 10 people survive bowel cancer when it’s found early.

Heatwaves hit asthmatics differently.

Stay hydrated. In a pool if possible. My wee sun queen went to Lanzarote here and came back the same colour. Wee half pint our friend Peter called her as she was pale as a half pint of milk 😂

Lookout for the elderly. Give them a knock ask if they need the shop.

Keep animals indoors shaded and plenty water. Damp towel on them not freezing water which will shock them. If they do over heat then an ice cube up their backside will immediately lower their temperature and call a vet.

Avoid overdoing it in the heat. Your housework can wait!

And spare a thought for kitchen staff working for hours in these extreme temperatures with little protection from the heat. Remember plenty breaks and iced drinks.

A wee summer tip……a bowl of ice in front of your fan.

Don’t ignore tightness in your chest just because “it’s only the heat.”

It can mean life or death quite literally.

Watching the discussion on TV this morning about the upcoming UK heatwave and workplace temperatures immediately made me think of chefs and kitchen staff.

People were talking about whether workers should get breaks in extreme heat, and it brought me straight back to Lauren.

Most people don’t realise there is guidance for minimum workplace temperatures — around 13°C for physically demanding work like kitchens — but there is no legal maximum workplace temperature in the UK.

Tiny kitchens. Grills. Fryers. Boilers. No air. No breaks. No escape from the heat.

For someone with asthma, those conditions can become dangerous very quickly.

Lauren spent her final hours working in a hot, busy kitchen during extreme heat. Then she stepped outside for fresh air into the freezing February cold.

If you have asthma, you’ll understand that sudden change. Hot air to icy air. Your chest tightens. Your lungs struggle. You can’t catch your breath.

So a shoutout to all the chefs and staff who push themselves to the extreme to keep us fed.

Please check on your staff.
Please look after each other.
And please take asthma seriously in hot workplaces.

I CAN’T EXPLAIN THIS… CAN YOU? 💙

This is my favourite video of Lauren connecting from heaven 💙

I know some people will say there’s an explanation for this… and maybe there is.

But as Lauren’s mum, this felt like my daughter finding a way to say ‘I’m still here’ 💙

It’s always the familiar things that stop me in my tracks — little signs, her energy… and sometimes even something as specific as a Still Game quote she used to love. If you’re listening closely to the video, you’ll know exactly the moment I mean. That’s when I know it’s her.”

“WHAT NOBODY PREPARES YOU FOR WHEN YOUR CHILD PASSES AWAY….”

Not the funeral.
Not registering the passing.
Not the sympathy messages.

The aftermath.

The silence when Layla settles at night.

The quiet moments where you remember every detail of the worst night of your life, but can’t remember the last ordinary conversation you had together.

I thought about Lauren’s Law on the day of Lauren’s funeral. Standing at her wake in Partick Thistle stadium looking across at the sponsors, I saw the names Marc and Darcy. A sign I thought….

And I remember saying, Lauren’s Law is going to become something.

I didn’t know how yet.
I just knew Lauren’s name had to keep going.

I didn’t ask for this job to be landed on my lap. It’s a heavy one to carry, Some days I carry Lauren’s Law with pride.
Other days I carry it through grief.

The whole point of Lauren’s Law is simple:
to remind people to carry their inhalers.

And if one person hears Lauren’s story and remembers their inhaler because of her… if it helps save even one life… then her name is continuing to protect other people.

I’ll always miss my Mini Me.
Life will never be the same again without her.

But at least I know now that Lauren didn’t die in vain. Her wee name, Lauren Reid, is helping save other asthmatics’ lives by reminding them to carry their inhaler.

To anybody out there grieving the loss of someone they love, and are in pain, please know you are not alone. Speak to someone or get the photos out. Play their favourite song or watch their favourite movie or tv show.

This is real life after loss.
This is what asthma can leave behind.

Today is World Eosinophilic Awareness Day 💙

Eosinophilic diseases can be linked to severe asthma and breathing problems, caused by inflammation in the airways and body.

Symptoms can include wheezing, breathlessness, chronic coughing, fatigue, chest tightness, and frequent asthma attacks.

Many people spend years being told it’s “just asthma” before finally getting the right diagnosis and treatment.

There may not be a cure, but treatments such as steroid inhalers, oral steroids, and newer biologic medications can help people manage symptoms and prevent severe flare-ups.

Does anyone here live with eosinophilic asthma or know somebody who does?

Thinking of everyone living with eosinophilic conditions and severe asthma every single day. 💙

“I’M FINE… I’M ALWAYS FINE.”

That’s what so many people with asthma say
while trying to carry on as normal.

“Wee bit of fresh air, I’ll be alright.” Lauren said.
Thinking it’ll pass. Thinking it’s nothing on that fateful night.

There’s a fact that in a severe asthma attack you may only manage three words at most.

Lauren’s last three words to me were:
“Mum… I’m panicking.”

Not “I think I’m having an asthma attack”
Not “i can’t find my inhaler”
Just fear. And her wanting her mum.

Asthma is not “just asthma.”
It can change everything in seconds.

Please take it seriously 💙
