I’ve opened up bookings for my next rider session day at Sole to Soul on Thursday 11th June 😊

Horse life can be brilliant, but it can also leave your head absolutely fried sometimes.

Work, yard, home, replaying rides afterwards, worrying about lessons or competitions, trying not to knock your confidence after a bad ride… it’s a lot to carry around all the time.

These sessions are basically a chance to properly slow down for a bit.

Most people just end up lying there thinking “I didn’t realise how much I needed this” 😂

1 hour — £40
1½ hours — £55

If you’d like a bit more info just send me a message 😊

I’m going to start offering Access Bars sessions at yards for small groups 😊

Horse life doesn’t exactly leave much time to switch off. A lot of us go from work, to the yard, to home and back round again while still trying to keep on top of everything else.

Then there’s the riding side of it too — overthinking, confidence knocks, feeling tense in the saddle, replaying rides afterwards, struggling to properly relax before lessons or competitions.

Access Bars is a really calm hands-on session that gives your head a chance to slow down for a bit.

All I’d need is a quiet space to set up the massage table — even a stable is absolutely fine.

1 hour session — £40
1½ hour session — £55

Minimum of 2 people — ideal for a couple of friends at the same yard 😊

Just putting the feelers out to see if it’s something people would be interested in 😊

One thing I’ve noticed more and more recently is how good horses are at compensating.

A lot of them just keep going and getting on with things even when they’re tight, tense or finding things difficult.

I think sometimes the signs are actually quite subtle until you really start paying attention to them.

It’s definitely changed the way I look at horses and the way I work with them.

A horse can be physically recovered and still carry tension in the body.

You might notice it in the small things.
Bracing.
Sensitivity.
Difficulty relaxing.
Always feeling slightly “on”.

Not necessarily pain.
Not necessarily behavioural either.

Sometimes horses simply get used to protecting themselves after discomfort or stress.

That’s one of the things I find really interesting when working with horses.

Creating space for the nervous system to settle can change a lot.

Some horses hang back.

They don’t like being first.
They’d rather follow.
They look for reassurance.

It’s easy to call that nappy.
Or lacking confidence.

But confidence doesn’t come first.

Safety does.

If a horse doesn’t feel secure, they won’t move forward freely.

And pushing rarely fixes that.

Sometimes what looks like stubbornness
is just a need for steadiness.

Jen 😊

You know when a friend is having a hard time.

You invite them over.
Make a cup of tea.
Let them talk.

They leave feeling lighter.

And you’re left feeling drained.

You didn’t fix anything.
You just held it.

That’s often what horses do for us.

We go up after a hard day.
We groom them.
We ride.
We stand beside them.

And without realising it, they take on what we’re carrying.

Sometimes when a horse feels flat…
or tense…
or just “not quite themselves”…

it’s worth asking what they’ve been holding.

Jen 😊

One of the things I’ve learned during sessions is that the horse usually tells you when they’ve had enough.

Sometimes they switch off completely.

Other times they start walking away.
Or grazing.
Or losing interest.

That’s not disrespect.

That’s communication.

It’s their way of saying they’re finished processing for now.

And that’s okay.

A session isn’t about pushing for more.

It’s about listening to where they’re at in that moment.

Jen 😊

Horses are incredibly good at reading us.

Not just what we do, but how we feel.

You’ve probably noticed it yourself.

If you’re tense, they tense.
If you’re distracted, they drift off.
If you’re frustrated, they can become reactive.

People often say horses mirror their rider.

And sometimes they do.

But it’s not always that simple.

Horses respond to the whole environment around them.

Our mood.
The energy in the space.
The tension we carry.

Think about how differently you react to things depending on the day you’re having.

If someone pulls out in front of your car, one day you might shrug it off.

Another day you might feel instantly irritated.

Same situation.
Different state.

Horses notice those shifts too.

So sometimes what we see as “bad behaviour”
is simply a reflection of everything happening around them.

And once you start noticing that…

you begin to show up a little differently.

It’s not always instant.

But you feel it when it happens.

If you’ve got a horse that struggles to settle, I’d love to know.

Access Bars for Horse Riders – Clinic Outline Physio West Sunnyside Equestrian

Most riders spend a lot of time focusing on their horse’s body.

Physio.
Saddle fit.
Feed.
Training.

But we rarely give the same attention to our own nervous system.

When we’re stressed, overwhelmed, tired or holding onto things mentally, our body carries that tension. Horses often feel that long before we do.

Access Bars is a gentle hands-on session that works with points on the head linked to different areas of life such as stress, overthinking, emotions and pressure.

During a session you simply lie down and relax while these points are lightly held. Many people feel deeply relaxed, some even fall asleep.

Riders often notice things like:

• feeling calmer and clearer in their mind
• less tension through the body when riding
• improved focus and confidence
• better sleep and recovery
• feeling more present with their horse

When your nervous system settles, your horse often feels the difference too.

I’ll be running Access Bars clinic sessions at

Sessions available:
• 90 minutes – £55
• 60 minutes – £40

If you’d like to try it or want to know more, just send me a message.

Jen😊
