🎉 Come and See Us at the Govan Fair! 🎉
The Living Laboratory and University of Glasgow team will be at the The Pearce Institute as part of this year's The Old Govan Fair on Friday 5th June, and we'd love for you to come along and say hello!

We'll be running a range of fun, interactive activities that showcase some of the exciting work taking place at the Health Innovation Hub (HiH). It's a great opportunity to learn more about health innovation, have a chat with the team, and try out some of the activities for yourself.

Whether you're curious about the Hub, interested in innovation and research, or simply looking for something different to do at the Fair, we'd be delighted to welcome you.
The day doesn't stop there! In the evening, we'll be joining the walk with Gilded Lily, where you'll have the chance to hear more about the incredible tapestry created by the talented women involved in the project and the stories behind this amazing piece of community artwork.

Come along, get involved, and celebrate everything that makes Govan such a special place! 💙

The Birth of Ultrasound in Govan and The Clyde

Dear Community Organisation / Group Lead, Community Members

In Collaboration with Swg3 and the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District, The Living Laboratory would like to warmly invite you and your members to join us for a special afternoon celebrating the launch of a new Digital Story exploring The Birth of the Ultrasound Scanner and the important role Glasgow and the Govan Shipyards played in the development of this world-changing technology.

Did you know the Ultrasound Scanner was developed in Glasgow?

If not this event is an opportunity to come together, celebrate local innovation and heritage, and explore how Glasgow’s history continues to inspire healthcare, science, and technology today.

During the afternoon, guests will be able to enjoy:
• Live screening of the Digital Story
• Demonstrations of modern ultrasound scanners by Mindray
• Interactive prototype activities
• STEM activities including:
1. Blood typing
2. MRI activities
3. Lego building challenges
4. Precision Medicine & Pharmacogenetics

We would also welcome any thoughts and feedback on some of the educational activity materials being developed to support learning and community engagement linked to the Digital Story.

Our showcase will highlight the exceptional people, ideas, and collaborations that have defined the Living Lab as it reaches its conclusion later this year.

Together, we’ll reflect on how the programme has brought people together to support meaningful innovation in healthcare - sharing inspiring projects, collaborations, and the difference this work is making for patients, our communities, and services across the city.

An engaging and interactive showcase featuring artwork, videos, posters, and first-hand stories from the Living Lab team, partners, and the local community.

Across the day, we’ll explore the stories behind the work, celebrate the impact created together, and look ahead to how these partnerships and achievements can continue to grow and support communities into the future.

Our next Living Lab on Foot walk is coming soon!

Join us for our fourth community walk in Govan as we continue exploring themes of health, wellbeing, and connection.

This time, we will be focusing on physical health and active living, thinking about how walking, movement, and spending time together can support our wellbeing and everyday lives.

Led by our wonderful guides, we will start with a relaxed guided walk around Govan before finishing at the Health Innovation Hub for tea & coffee and a friendly health-focused session and discussion.

The Community Tapestry and Mosaic, created by the people of Govan for the new Health Innovation Hub, are now proudly on display in the Advanced Research Centre at the University of Glasgow in all their glory ✨

It’s incredibly special to see these beautiful pieces displayed in such a welcoming and inspiring space for the public to enjoy. Every stitch, tile, colour, and design reflects the voices, creativity, and lived experiences of the community that came together to create them.

We were also delighted to host our first tour and discussion around the development of the tapestry and mosaic with members of the Byres Community Hub Hub Mondays group, which runs every second Monday.

There were fantastic conversations, meaningful reflections, and some wonderful new connections made throughout the visit 💛
A huge thank you to Susan O'Donnell, Callum Sinclair, and everyone who attended and took part in the discussions.
