NEW COMMUNITY DROP-IN SESSIONS AT THE HEALTH INNOVATION HUB

We are delighted to be bringing some fantastic regular drop-in sessions to the Health Innovation Hub at 101 Holmfauld Road, Linthouse, Glasgow and we would love for you to come along!

These sessions are completely free, informal, friendly and open to the local community. There is no need to book an appointment, just drop in, and find out what support and opportunities are available. ☕😊

We will have Alliance Scotland and Link Workers from local GP surgeries in Govan, Ibrox and Linthouse joining us.

They will be there to offer support, information, advice and resources, and can help connect you with services and opportunities that may be useful to you and your family.

🎉 WE HAVE A WINNER! 🎉

We asked you to cast your vote and help us decide the name of our new Policy and Codes of Practice for Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement in Research — and you certainly did!

We had a fabulous 144 votes! 🙌

And with 84 votes, the winning name is…

And that’s it, this is now the official name of our new Policy and Codes of Practice!

What makes this even more special is that the name was created by our community working group and then put to the wider community to have their say.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to vote, share their thoughts and be part of this process.

This is exactly what meaningful Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement should be about — working together, listening to different voices and shaping research together.

We’re so excited to see Research Shaped Together take its next steps! We will be publishing these documents at the end of the month, so keep posted for details.

What an amazing day of community conversations!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of taking 12 of our wonderful community members along to the Byres Community Hub to meet with Gerry Graham, Dean of Research and Innovation, and Ruth McLaughlin, Director of the Living Laboratory at the University of Glasgow.

The purpose of this first meeting was to learn more about the research taking place within the University and, most importantly, to hear directly from our community about what they would like to see when they visit the University in the future.

Who would they like to meet?
What would they like to hear about?
What would they like to see?
What would make a visit interesting, welcoming and meaningful for them and their communities?

And honestly… what a conversation we had! 😍

The enthusiasm within the group and the genuine interest in the topic was amazing. The conversations just flowed, with absolutely no need to worry about awkward silences! 😂 Questions were being asked, answered and bounced back and forth, with more questions, ideas and discussions coming from the group.

We had two hours together, but I think we could probably have done with another two!

We unfortunately didn't manage to get many pictures because, as usual, we were too busy rushing about making sure everything was going smoothly, and by the time I remembered, the moment had passed! 😂 But actually, that's probably a good thing because it meant everyone was so involved in the conversation.

What an amazing group of people we had there. 💜

These 12 community members came along as ambassadors for the rest of their PPIE working groups, bringing with them the thoughts, interests and ideas of the wider groups they represent.

This was just the beginning. We will soon be bringing more of our community groups along to the University, giving them opportunities to meet researchers, see the facilities, learn about the research taking place and, hopefully, feel that the University is a place where their voices and experiences are genuinely valued.

For us, this is about building relationships, creating trust and opening doors, not just asking our community to be involved in research, but making sure we take the time to listen, learn from one another and build those relationships first.

A huge thank you to Gerry and Ruth for taking the time to meet with us, listen to our community and help us start this really exciting journey.

And, of course, a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful community members for bringing so much enthusiasm, curiosity, honesty and warmth to the day. 🥰

We can't wait to share more updates as this develops.

Building connections in our communities

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of spending some time in Ferguslie Park,Paisley and visiting the Tannahill Centre

We had a lovely meeting with the volunteer co-odinator Terry McTernan , who is currently studying at the University of Glasgow, and had some great conversations about ways we can come together, connect and create opportunities for collaboration.

We’re also looking forward to spending more time with community partners and members, getting to know the different groups, the work they do and the amazing support they provide within their communities.

But first things first… we need to get Terry along to the Health Innovation Hub for a tour, to meet our team and some of our fantastic clinicians! 😊

We’re really looking forward to seeing how these connections develop and exploring new opportunities for collaboration, networking and sharing knowledge.

A huge thank you to Terry and everyone at the new Tannahill Centre for welcoming us and for taking the time to connect with us.

We believe that some of the best partnerships start with a simple conversation, getting to know each other and finding out what we can achieve together.

💜 Building connections, sharing knowledge and creating partnerships 💜

We had the pleasure of welcoming The Rock Trust, who work to prevent youth homelessness, and ACVC HUB Veteran Support Services to the Health Innovation Hub for a tour of the building.

It was lovely to have the opportunity to share some of the amazing developments and work happening within the Hub, but also to hear about the fantastic services they provide and the incredible support they offer to members of our community.

It was honestly so inspiring to hear about the hard work being carried out by both organisations and the difference they are making every single day.

For me, these visits are about so much more than just showing people around the Health Innovation Hub. They are about getting to know each other, sharing what we do, understanding the amazing work already happening within our communities and looking at how we can connect. 🤝

We had some really positive conversations about ways we could link in and create some exciting and creative opportunities to work together, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how these connections develop. 💜

A huge thank you to Rock Trust and AVCV Hub for joining us, for sharing your stories and for the amazing work you do.

And next time, I’ll be coming to you! 😊

🎉💜 What an amazing day yesterday! 💜🎉

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Invisible Cities to the Health Innovation Hub for their 10th Birthday celebrations! 🥳🎂

It was so lovely seeing such a fantastic group of tour guides, volunteers and participants from the Invisible Cities walking tours all coming together in the Café at the Health Innovation Hub.

There was lots of chatting, mingling, networking and sharing stories, and just a really lovely atmosphere throughout the building.

We then had the opportunity to take everyone on tours around the Health Innovation Hub, sharing some of the amazing stories, developments and work happening within the building, as well as the fantastic things happening across our local community.
It was brilliant to see the Hub filled with so much energy, laughter and conversation, and it really did create an amazing buzz around the building!

I feel so lucky to have been part of the relationship that has developed between Invisible Cities, Govan and the Health Innovation Hub, and yesterday was a lovely reminder of just how important these connections and partnerships are. 💜

A huge thank you to Invisible Cities for choosing the Health Innovation Hub to celebrate such a special milestone.

🌟 That’s a wrap on our 3rd round of PPIE Working Groups! 🌟

We have now finished our third round of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Working Groups, working alongside our wonderful community members to create a new PPIE Policy and Codes of Practice. 💜

What an amazing experience it has been! We have been so incredibly fortunate to work with such fantastic groups of people, all bringing their own experiences, knowledge, ideas and perspectives to help shape documents that we hope will support the future of PPIE within research.

These documents are not just about creating policies and guidance, they are about helping our researchers understand the best approaches to working alongside our communities, building meaningful relationships and ensuring that community voices are genuinely heard and valued.

Throughout this experience, some really important values came through time and time again: trust, respect, listening, compassion, honesty, inclusion and taking a trauma-informed approach. Most importantly, the importance of spending time getting to know and building relationships with communities before asking anything of them.

The honesty, care, compassion and enthusiasm shown by everyone in each of the groups has been truly overwhelming. You have all been so willing to support the project, the University of Glasgow, one another, and myself and our PPIE Manager, Anna Morris.

We genuinely cannot thank you all enough for the time, effort and commitment you have given. Your contributions will make a real difference, and it has been an absolute privilege to work alongside you. 🌟

We now can't wait to see the documents fully branded and ready to share! But this is only the beginning of this relationship. We look forward to continuing to work together, learning from one another and discovering the best approaches possible for meaningful PPIE in research and healthcare innovation.

🎨 Our beautiful community mosaics are finding their new homes!

We are so excited to now have 5 of our amazing mosaic panels installed at The Pearce Institute, with another 5 displayed in Glasgow Life Libraries, Elderpark Library, in partnership with Impact Arts.

The remaining 10 panels are still at the Health Innovation Hub (HiH) for everyone to come along and see.

These mosaics are so special because they represent the incredible time, creativity, stories and hard work of the community who helped create them. 💛

It was also something the community wanted was to have these beautiful pieces displayed somewhere accessible for everyone to enjoy.
There is something really lovely about seeing artwork created by the community, with the community and staying in the community. ❤️
And we have some exciting walks coming up too! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

As part of our Living Lab on Foot walks with Invisible Cities, Meet me in Govan walking group, we have 3 more walks planned:

📍 24th September – Pearce Institute | 10.30am
We'll explore the mosaic panels and framed displays, as well as some other local attractions linked to them.

📍 15th October – Elderpark Library
10.30am from the Pearce Institute
We'll visit this fantastic refurbished building, see its amazing facilities and explore more of the local area, including Elderpark.

📍 Final walk – Health Innovation Hub

We'll learn more about Govan along the way before finishing at the Health Innovation Hub with a tour of the building and another chance to see the wonderful mosaic panels.

These walks are about so much more than walking. They're about bringing people together, making connections, learning about our local history, celebrating creativity and sharing the amazing things happening within our community. 💛

What a busy but absolutely wonderful day in Govan! 💛

My day started with the Invisible Cities, Meet me in Govan walking group. We visited Glasgow Life Libraries, Elderpark Library to see the Scotty Dogs before heading along to the Impact Arts, Charlotte CraftCafe, where everyone was busy creating beautiful pieces for the upcoming Craft Café Flower Festival next Friday from 12pm–3pm at the library. The creations were amazing and well worth going along to see.

Next, I had the pleasure of visiting the ACVC HUB Veterans and Families Support Group on Broomloan Road for the first time. What a fantastic service and such a warm welcome from everyone. I loved seeing the incredible pottery, artwork and crafts being created. They are also holding a Craft Fair this Saturday from 12pm–4pm to raise funds for the service, so please pop along and show your support if you can.

I then arrived just in time for the final part of Govan Youth Information Project Commonwealth Games Day, which focused on healthy eating. To my delight, I was presented with my very own participation medal, which I proudly wore for the rest of the day! Well done to all the young people and staff who made the day such a success. 🏅

To finish off the day, I enjoyed a lovely catch-up with Marie from Govan Community Council to chat about Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement. As always, one conversation led to another, and it was great to meet even more local people who are passionate about supporting their community.

I've only just made it home and think the rest of the evening will be spent sitting quietly with a cup of tea, reflecting on what has been a very busy but incredibly rewarding day.

Days like today remind me just how lucky we are to have so many amazing people, projects and organisations working hard to make Govan such a special place. 🎈🎉
