Yesterday I had a few hours to kill in North Wales, so I went to a very special place in my life, a stone circle which for years now has been the axis mundi of my life, the place where feels like the centre of my universe, I visit every year at least once to sit and meditate on what has changed in my life, and often as is the case when ancient stone bothering feelings a sense of connection to the generations of different ancestors who have sat in this spot and done whatever their culture decided this spot was at the time.
I decided to chant for a while, something which has become my favourite type of meditation, and usually I just go with what comes first, and this is the Vajrasattva mantra, a powerful Tibetan Buddhist 108 syllable mantra which has genuinely helped change my perspective on life over the last year or so. The mantra in the Karma Kagyu Buddhist lineage is:
Om Benzar sato samaya, manuapalaya
benzar sato tenopa,
Tishtha dridho mebhawa
Suto ka yo me bha wa
Supo ka yo me bha wa
Anurakto me bha wa
Sarva siddhi me prayatsa
Sarva karma su tsa me
Tsittam shre yam ku ru hung
Ha ha ha ha ho, bhagawan
Sarva ta tha ga ta
Bezra ma me muntsa
Benzri bha wa ma ha,
Samayasato, ah.
It serves as an invocation of the deity Vajrasattva who embodies purity of Buddha nature and the enlightened mind. Essentially purifying of karma across lifetimes to help expedite the realisation of enlightenment of the soul with regular practise. It’s had countless different meanings to me personally and anyone who works with it but this is the best way I can shorten it.
While chanting this after recording 108 times I had the most incredible experience of witnessing the generations and lifetimes of countless people who has gathered in this stone circle, and almost felt as though it became a timeless space inside the stones, literally like in the film the Time Machine where he can see time flying past outside the sphere of light from the machine.
Every ancient culture has spiritual technologies for attaining these altered states of consciousness, in these crazy time I implore you to find you own. Stay centred in the madness people ✌🏼💚
