Twenty years ago today, on the first Wednesday in August, I started my very first job as a doctor in the NHS.
My first post was in medical oncology at St Barts and the London, and I still remember just how exciting - and daunting - that first day felt. I seem to remember it also involved some tears 😅
Over the years, I’ve worked across a range of specialties, including A&E, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrinology, and general practice. Those experiences ultimately led me to realise that GP training was where I belonged.
I’ve now been practising as a GP for 15 years, and just over three years ago I also qualified as an aesthetics doctor.
Today, I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that combines both NHS general practice and aesthetics.
Looking back, I’m so grateful for the journey, the lessons, the colleagues, and the patients I’ve met along the way.
Best of luck to all those new doctors who begin that journey today 🙌
