FREE NEUROLOGY WEBINAR - THURSDAY 15th OCTOBER 2026
Don't miss our next FB live Journal Club on Thursday 15th Octoberat 19:00 UK time with our guest Bethany Boyd, currently doing a master's project at the veterinary school at the University of Cambridge, England. This event is kindly brought to you by Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging.
Simon and I will be discussing with Bethany her recent publication on paroxysmal dyskinesia in Dachshund dogs. At the end of this 30 minutes presentation, you will be able to ask question directly to Bethany about her article.

To join the live stream just visit our Veterinary Neurology FB page (https://www.facebook.com/neurologyforvets/) or click in the FB notification if you are following us already. The recording of the live event will be available on this FB page for you to watch at a later stage for up to 4 weeks after the live stream or one our website (https://www.web-vetneurology.com/) at any time!
Hope to see you all on Thursday 15th October at 19:00 UK time!

Helium is currently a trending topic, especially due to its crucial role in medical imaging, which has raised some concerns. Hallmarq has a streamlined solution to address this issue.

Our system eliminates the need for a quench pipe and comes with an integrated RF shield, removing the necessity for a specially designed shielded room. This means that installation becomes much easier, quicker, and more cost-effective compared to traditional setups, often saving approximately $100,000. Our dedicated team manages all aspects, from architectural design to final commissioning, typically ensuring you can go from contract to your first scan in about four to six months.

Co-ordination at the heart of equine diagnostics đź’™

How do you ensure consistent MRI interpretation across two clinics located 500 km apart?! At La Clinique du Cheval, the answer lies with one person: Javier Munoz, a passionate equine clinician who has built a strong bridge between advanced imaging and hands-on clinical practice.

In this case from The Liphook Equlne Hospital, the identification of superficial digital flexor tendinopathy within the carpal sheath was an unusual finding but was considered the primary contributor to the lameness. We find out out imaging with standing MRI made the difference to diagnosis.

The horse was reported to have recurrent left forelimb lameness, which showed partial improvement following intra-articular anaesthesia of the middle carpal joint and a lateral palmar nerve block.

The use of iNAV motion correction – together with AI applications such as PAICE – was important in this case. When combined, both help to reduce scan times and improve image quality when scanning the proximal limb and therefore supporting an accurate diagnosis.

If you've been keeping an eye on the news, you might have noticed that there's been some talk about helium shortages. This is a big deal, especially for veterinary practices using high-field MRI systems. They rely on liquid helium to keep the magnets cool, and not having it can lead to unexpected costs and downtime. It’s important for practices to be aware of these challenges so they can plan better for the future!

The cooling mechanism keeps the Hallmarq helium free magnet at the temperature it needs to function. How that temperature is achieved does not affect field strength, signal quality or diagnostic capability.

Hallmarq’s 1.5T system delivers the same high-field image quality you’d expect from any 1.5T MRI, with the added advantage of veterinary specific coils and software designed around animal anatomy, not human anatomy. Our veterinary neurologists and radiologists consistently report image quality that matches or exceeds that of conventional high-field machines and our comprehensive case studies library supports their findings.

MRI is the imaging modality of choice for dermoid sinus, offering superior soft-tissue resolution for mapping sinus tracts and assessing intracranial or intraspinal extension. In this case study, we take a look at a dermoid sinus in a young Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Thank you to Dr. Adam Moeser and team at Wisconsin Veterinary Neurology and Surgical Center for sharing this study with us đź’™
