After having my third child and many unsuccessful attempts to trying to become a gym bunny, a good friend of mine encouraged me to join her and her small running group (The St Thomas's Trotters). I hadn't run since my school days so I was a little apprehensive; I have to say I had always loathed running.
At this time I lived near the North downs in Surrey. We where surrounded by beautiful footpaths and trails, all of which I had no idea existed until I went out running. After that first run I was pleasantly surprised as I actually enjoyed it, the scenery definatly helped. I felt so uplifted and better for it so I continue to join them when ever they went out. Each time I found myself running further and further.
The Trotters was a great group to be a part of as everyone was very supportive and encouraging and not at all competitive (unless we were in a race against one another 😜)
..sorry this is becoming rather long winded 🙄, to cut a long story short, I soon became some one who loathed running to now absolutely loving it and with out sounding too cheesy it's all down to finding a fun supportive running group, the Trotters.
Since then I have run numerous 10km and 15km trail races, a couple of half marathons and a triathlon, which I would never of thought I would be capable of.
Now fast forwarding a few years... my family and I moved up to North Yorkshire. To start with it took me some time to get my mojo back, with my running, as I missed the Trotters. It was now just me, myself and my dog so after recuperating from the big move I soon got my OS maps and planned some new routes... the rest is history. I now venture out, in my new surroundings, at least 3 times a week. Some running day's are harder than others but I always feel better for it.
Trail running is definitely worth a try. It's never boring, there's always a tale to tell whether it's getting lost, a cow blocking a path or a stinky bog 😁
I hope to one day duplicate and lead a fun, trail, run group like the Trotters but up here 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♀️🏃
