My love for running started when I joined the Army at the age of 17, and I discovered I was actually good at it 🏃🏽‍♀️My fitness journey grew from there and I eventually became a Physical Training Instructor. As a petite woman, this wasn’t easy to achieve - it literally took blood, sweat and tears at times 🥵

I continued the health & fitness journey when I left the Army, becoming a Personal Trainer, Remedial Therapist, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Yoga Teacher and Pilates Instructor (and many other things!) I had my own business, as well as teaching full time. I never stopped, but I loved it! 📆

During Covid times, I became quite ill and as well as having severe allergic reactions, I experienced anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. I stopped enjoying my training and I struggled to run comfortably.

In 2023, after being admitted into hospital with pneumonia, I was diagnosed with lung cancer and 8 weeks later, I had to have my right lung removed 🫁. As a non-smoker, this came as a complete shock and I couldn’t comprehend why.

It’s safe to say that my whole life changed. I not only lost part of my body, I lost my identity, my outlet, and what made me tick. I struggled with acceptance. Why me? I did everything right. Who am I without my fitness? Why do I now have this body? The list continues… I felt like I paled into the background and was no longer seen or heard. Add menopause and mid-life to that scenario….

Fast forward two years, and although I’m still on my journey, I’m now in a place of acceptance. I cannot change what I cannot control. What I can do, is change my mindset . I’ve grieved for the old me, and that’s ok, but now it’s time to discover new things and create new memories. The skills, knowledge and experience are still there, only now I’m going to do it differently.

My mission is to continue to help others on their journey, whatever that looks like. If you’re stuck in a place of overwhelm, where you’re unable to move forward, drop me a message and let’s see if we can work together to help you create your best life based on who you are now 🙏❤️

Trigger or Glimmer?

A trigger refers to something which creates a strong emotional or psychological response in an individual and is often associated with a past trauma.

As much I have understanding of this from a mental health/psychological context, I personally want to escape any anxiety, fear and sadness from taking over my life.

I always like to turn any negatives into a positive where I can, as it helps me to move forward and grow as a person, using that experience as a lesson rather than a negative experience.

By doing this, I’m training my brain to change how it processes information and emotions. This obviously takes time and like any training, can only be done through repetition and persistence. After all, our brain is a muscle.

I came across this description today and can now give this process a name.
Going forward, I’m now going to call these moments a ‘glimmer’. After all, we all could do with a little sparkle in our life, right? 😉

This was my morning gratitude today 🩷

1. I am grateful for the beautiful countryside, where I live

2. I am grateful for Luna the Labrador who loves me unconditionally.

3. I’m grateful for being able to breathe in the fresh air.

What are you grateful for today? 🤔
