A little Wednesday inspiration... ☀️ 🙏 Please like and share this post.

Sometimes the greatest acts of kindness come from people who choose to challenge themselves so they can change someone else's life. Today, we'd love to introduce our wonderful supporter, Lindsay, who is taking on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Independence at Home.

Every step Lindsay takes will help disabled people and those living with long-term illness access the specialist equipment and home adaptations they need to live safely, comfortably and independently at home.

For many of the people we support, we are the last place they can turn when no other funding is available. We are so grateful for Lindsay's determination, generosity and belief in our work. Challenges like this not only raise vital funds, they also raise vital awareness about the life-changing impact of specialist equipment and home adaptations. The right support can bring immediate improvements to mobility, safety, comfort, dignity and quality of life, helping disabled people and those living with long-term illness remain living independently at home, as they choose to.

If you're able to, please support Lindsay with a donation or simply share her fundraising page with family and friends. Every contribution, whatever the size, will help transform lives and restore independence.

Thank you, Lindsay. We will all be cheering you on every step of the way! 💙

💙 Today, 17 July 2026, is Clare’s Day, a special opportunity to celebrate the incredible legacy of Clare Milne and the vital work of The Clare Milne Trust

For 24 years, The Clare Milne Trust has generously supported Independence at Home, helping hundreds of disabled people and people living with long-term illness across Devon and Cornwall access specialist mobility and disability equipment, home adaptations, and other essential items for daily living.

These grants make a real difference, supporting independence, comfort, safety, dignity, and quality of life at home. 🏡✨

We are deeply grateful for this long-standing support and proud to join others in celebrating Clare’s legacy: a legacy that continues to change lives and champion disabled people and their families. 💛
Thank you to The Clare Milne Trust, for helping us continue to be a lifeline for disabled people across Devon and Cornwall. 🙌

For many disabled people, particularly those experiencing sight loss, technology is developing quickly. ✨ AI-powered assistive technology is advancing at an incredible pace, creating opportunities for greater independence and connection. 👓💙

However, not everyone can benefit from these life-changing innovations without support from charities like Independence at Home.

Thanks to our incredible supporters, we have recently been able to provide four people experiencing sight loss with AI-powered smart glasses. 🙌 These innovative devices are helping them read post, texts and emails, identify dates, check food packaging, read signs and make hands-free calls to family and friends, making everyday life more accessible and independent. 📖📱🛒

One recent beneficiary is studying at college. 🎓 Her new glasses have transformed her ability to manage daily tasks, stay connected with her family and navigate both home and community life with greater confidence. This remarkable technology is supporting her learning, communication, independence and overall quality of life. 🌍❤️

Thank you to everyone who makes this support possible. Together, we can ensure that life-changing technology reaches the people who need it most. 💙🏡

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing support of B&Q Foundation for helping us transform lives in Scotland and Northern Ireland. 💙

Their generous grant enables us to support 25 disabled people each year with vital home adaptations and repairs, practical changes that restore safety, dignity and independence.

This is just one example of the difference their funding makes.

A gentleman living with a rare, life-limiting genetic condition was facing daily challenges. The condition affects his limbs and mobility, leaving him unable to manage personal hygiene independently. This led to serious and dangerous skin issues and took a heavy emotional toll, as he had to rely on his wife for help with such personal care.

He urgently needed a specialist Clos-o-Mat toilet to enable warm water washing and drying, equipment that would restore dignity, health and independence. But there was a major obstacle: his home’s wiring could not support the installation.

Thanks to funding from the B&Q Foundation, his home was fully re-wired and the specialist equipment installed. Their support was the crucial missing piece of the jigsaw for this family.

This gentleman will benefit from this installation for the rest of his life. It is a huge step toward self-management of his life-limiting condition.

Because of B&Q Foundation’s generosity, 25 people every year are able to live more independently in homes that truly work for them.

Thank you to everyone B&Q for helping to change lives, one home at a time. 🏠 ✨

🌍 International Day of Persons with Disabilities – Wednesday 3rd December 2025 🌍

Today, we celebrate the power of independence, meet Emily Nunns, whose life was transformed thanks to a life-changing equipment enabled by a grant from Independence at Home.

Emily’s story, shared at the charity’s 60th Anniversary Reception in October, shows exactly how specialist equipment enables her to live independently at home and in her community .

🎥 Watch Emily’s speech here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSZdwmmBg1s&feature=youtu.be

Emily describes how the mobility equipment:
• Supports her daily routines and safety,
• Strengthens connections with her family and community,
• Empowers her to choose how she lives, and where she lives.

Independence isn’t just about accessibility, it’s about choice, autonomy, and belonging. Supporting people with disabilities to live independently in the environment they choose is key.

Please do share this post and let’s champion a world where everyone has the freedom to live their life, their way.
