What Is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Many people are curious about clinical hypnotherapy but are unsure what it actually involves. Often, the only exposure people have had is through stage hypnosis on television, where volunteers appear to lose control or behave in unusual ways. Clinical hypnotherapy is completely different.

Clinical hypnotherapy is a safe, evidence-informed therapeutic approach that combines deep relaxation with focused attention, allowing you to access your subconscious mind in a calm and comfortable way. Throughout the session, you remain fully aware, in control, and able to stop at any time. Nothing can make you do or say anything against your will.

What Can You Expect During a Session?

Your session begins with a relaxed conversation about what you would like to achieve. Whether you’re looking to overcome anxiety, improve confidence, break unwanted habits, or process emotional challenges, your therapy is tailored specifically to your needs.

Once you’re comfortable, you’ll be gently guided into a deeply relaxed state. Many people describe it as feeling similar to daydreaming, meditation, or becoming completely absorbed in a good book or film. While your body relaxes, your mind becomes more focused and receptive to positive change.

You will:

* Hear everything that is said.
* Remain aware and in control.
* Feel calm, safe and deeply relaxed.
* Be able to speak if you wish.
* Remember most, if not all, of the session afterwards.

How Does Clinical Hypnotherapy Work?

Our subconscious mind stores our beliefs, habits, memories, emotional responses and automatic behaviours. Many of these patterns are helpful, but some develop over time through stress, past experiences or repeated behaviours that no longer serve us.

Clinical hypnotherapy works by helping your subconscious mind become more open to healthier, more positive patterns. Rather than forcing change, it gently supports your mind in letting go of limiting beliefs, reducing unhelpful habits, easing emotional responses and strengthening more empowering ways of thinking.

It can be particularly effective in supporting:

* Anxiety and overthinking
* Stress and burnout
* Confidence and self-esteem
* Sleep difficulties
* Fears and phobias
* Unwanted habits and behaviours
* Panic and overwhelm
* Emotional wellbeing and resilience

Clinical Hypnotherapy vs Stage Hypnosis

One of the biggest misconceptions about hypnotherapy comes from stage shows and television.

Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Performers carefully select willing volunteers who are happy to participate and perform for an audience.

Clinical hypnotherapy is a professional therapeutic intervention focused entirely on your wellbeing. There are no tricks, no loss of control and no mind control. Instead, the process uses relaxation, guided imagery and therapeutic techniques to help you create lasting, meaningful change in a safe and supportive environment.

Sometimes the body and mind simply need the opportunity to slow down, feel safe and reconnect.

Clinical hypnotherapy offers a gentle space where lasting change can happen naturally, helping you move forward feeling calmer, more confident and more in control of your life.

Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, confidence, habits, emotional wellbeing or simply want to learn more about how hypnotherapy could help, I’d love to hear from you.

As we reach the Summer Solstice, the midpoint of the year, we arrive at the longest day and the shortest night. It is a moment that invites us to pause, however briefly, for reflection and retrospection. It is a time to gather our thoughts, reconnect with the energies of the land, and acknowledge the journey we have travelled throughout the year so far.

In modern times, we often celebrate Midsummer and the height of summer as a season of warmth, abundance, and social connection. Yet beneath the outward energy of the season, there is also an invitation to step more deeply into the essence of the natural world. If we listen carefully, there is a whisper of change already present. The air feels subtly different, birdsong begins to shift, and the plants stand in their fullest bloom while their roots continue their quiet work beneath the earth.

Even now, at the Summer Solstice, the first gentle call of autumn begins its song. The change is almost imperceptible, but the tide has already begun to turn. As we reach the height of the light in our hemisphere, the days that follow will gradually become shorter. The darkness of autumn and winter begins, little by little, to reclaim a portion of each day. We may not notice these changes immediately, and they may not become fully apparent until later in August, but the shift begins from the moment the solstice energy anchors itself within the land.

The earth around us gently encourages a deepening of awareness and presence. It guides us towards our ancestral connections and reminds us of the cycles that have been witnessed and honoured for generations. Traditionally, this period marked the approach of the first harvest. If the weather has been kind and the growing season supportive, early harvests may already begin, particularly among herbs, medicinal plants, and the gifts gathered through mindful foraging.

The wheel of the year continues its steady turning towards August, when the first harvest comes fully into its own. The long, languid days of July unfold, carrying us into the richness of late summer. Yet those who are attuned to the rhythms of the land often sense that the farewell to summer has already begun. Not as a sadness, but as a quiet appreciation. A recognition that every season is fleeting and precious.

So we are invited to live fully within these moments, to savour the light, the warmth, and the abundance that surrounds us. To notice the subtle changes taking place each day and to honour the wisdom of the natural cycle as it continues to unfold, exactly as it should.

If something here resonates, you do not have to hold it on your own.

Phiona at Mindful Moments Therapies offers a supportive and compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace.

As we reach the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, there is often a sense of brightness, energy and expansion around us.

Yet internally, you might notice something different.

You may feel pressure to be making the most of things, to feel happy or fulfilled, whilst quietly holding other emotions beneath the surface. Perhaps there is tiredness, uncertainty, or a sense that things are not quite where you hoped they would be.

These experiences are valid.

The Summer Solstice is not only a celebration of light, it is also an opportunity to pause and notice what is present for you. What feels full. What feels unfinished. What you may be carrying.

You can feel gratitude and still long for something more.
You can feel connected and still need space.
You can be moving forward and still be processing.

Healing is not about matching the season around you. It is about staying connected to your own internal experience, whatever that may be.

This time of year can offer a gentle invitation to check in with yourself. To recognise what you need, rather than what you feel you should be feeling.

If something here resonates, you do not have to hold it on your own.

Phiona at Mindful Moments Therapies offers a supportive and compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace.

June Super New Moon: A Powerful Invitation to Begin Again

The New Moon has long been associated with fresh starts, new intentions and the quiet potential that exists before something begins to grow.

A Super New Moon carries this energy even more strongly. Occurring when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth during its new phase, many people experience it as a time of heightened reflection, deeper awareness and renewed intention.

Whether you view lunar cycles through a spiritual, symbolic or mindful lens, the Super New Moon offers a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect and consciously choose what you wish to cultivate in the next chapter of your life.

A Time for New Beginnings

Nature reminds us that growth often begins unseen. Before the flower blooms, the seed quietly develops beneath the soil. Before the tree bursts into leaf, it spends time gathering energy and preparing for growth.

The New Moon reflects this same wisdom. It invites us to consider:

* What am I ready to begin?
* What part of my life is calling for renewal?
* What future am I quietly growing towards?

This is a powerful time to set intentions that align with your values, hopes and aspirations.

New Awareness

Growth begins with awareness.
The New Moon encourages us to look inward and notice what may have been hidden beneath the busyness of everyday life.

Perhaps there are patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps there are beliefs that are limiting your potential. Perhaps there are dreams that have been waiting patiently for your attention.

Awareness creates choice.
When we become aware of our thoughts, habits and emotional patterns, we gain the ability to respond differently.

Creating New Practices

Lasting change is rarely created through one significant action. More often, it grows through small, consistent practices.

The June Super New Moon offers an opportunity to introduce habits that support your wellbeing and personal growth. This may include:

* Spending more time in nature
* Creating a daily mindfulness practice
* Prioritising rest and self-care
* Journalling regularly
* Establishing healthier boundaries
* Nurturing meaningful relationships
* Taking small steps towards a long-held goal

Every new practice begins with a single choice.

Align, Release and Reset

Just as important as beginning something new is releasing what no longer serves you. The New Moon invites us to gently let go of:

* Limiting beliefs
* Old fears
* Unhelpful habits
* Emotional burdens
* Self-criticism
* Outdated stories about ourselves

Releasing creates space.
When we let go of what is no longer aligned, we make room for growth, clarity and possibility.

Working with the Energy of the New Moon

You may wish to mark this lunar cycle through simple reflective practices:

* Set intentions for the month ahead
* Spend time journalling
* Create a vision for the future you are building
* Take a mindful walk in nature
* Light a candle and reflect quietly
* Practise gratitude
* Meditate or breathe consciously
* Consider what you wish to nurture in your life

There is no right or wrong way to work with the New Moon. The invitation is simply to pause and listen.

Nature Knows the Way

At Mindful Moments Therapies, nature is woven throughout the therapeutic work offered by Phiona.

The changing seasons, natural cycles and rhythms of the earth often mirror our own internal journeys of growth, rest, release and renewal.

Just as nature does not force growth, healing cannot be rushed.
There are seasons for action and seasons for reflection. Seasons for letting go and seasons for beginning again.

The June Super New Moon offers a gentle reminder that transformation does not require perfection. It begins with awareness. It grows through intention. And it unfolds one step at a time.

You are not starting from scratch.
You are starting from experience, wisdom and everything you have learned along the way. Trust the process. Trust your timing. Trust yourself.

A Gentle Invitation

As you move through this New Moon cycle, consider what you would like to welcome into your life and what you are ready to leave behind.

If you are seeking support with personal growth, emotional wellbeing, healing or life transitions, therapy can provide a compassionate space to explore what is emerging and what is ready to change.

Creative Counselling: When Words Are Not Enough

There are moments in life when putting feelings into words can feel incredibly difficult.

You may know that something does not feel right, yet struggle to explain exactly what it is. You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, exhausted or emotionally disconnected. Perhaps there are experiences from your past that still affect you, but finding the language to describe them feels impossible.

For many people, there are feelings that live beneath the surface of conscious awareness. Emotions that are felt deeply within the body but are difficult to express through conversation alone.

Sometimes words are enough. And sometimes they are not. This is where Creative Counselling can offer something different.

At Mindful Moments Therapies, Creative Counselling provides a gentle and supportive space where creativity becomes another way of exploring your inner world. It offers opportunities to express thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be difficult to access through talking alone.

This is not about creating art. It is about creating understanding. It is about making space for parts of yourself that may have remained unheard for far too long.

If talking about your experiences feels difficult, or you find yourself struggling to put your emotions into words, Creative Counselling may offer a gentle and supportive way forward.

At Mindful Moments Therapies, Phiona provides a supportive, compassionate space where creativity can help you explore thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. No artistic ability is needed, only a willingness to be curious about yourself and your journey.

Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties or personal growth, Creative Counselling can help you reconnect with yourself in meaningful and transformative ways.

Clay Therapy: Healing Through Touch, Creativity and Connection

Sometimes words are not enough.

There are experiences, emotions and stories that can feel difficult to explain, difficult to understand or simply too overwhelming to put into language. Clay therapy offers a different way of exploring what is happening within you.

Working with clay invites you to slow down, connect with your senses and express yourself through touch, movement and creativity. There is no right or wrong way to work with clay. You do not need artistic skill or experience. What matters is the process, not the finished piece.

The simple act of holding, shaping, pressing, smoothing or transforming clay can help create a sense of grounding and presence. As your hands work with the clay, thoughts and feelings often begin to emerge naturally, allowing deeper awareness and understanding to develop.

Sessions are gentle, supportive and tailored to your individual needs. Whether you are navigating anxiety, stress, loss, trauma, life changes or simply seeking a deeper connection with yourself, clay therapy offers a compassionate and creative space to explore your experience.

If you are curious about clay therapy and would like to explore whether it may be helpful for you, I would be delighted to speak with you.

Book a free 15-minute no-obligation consultation to discuss your needs and discover how clay therapy could support your wellbeing.
