✨️This week inside the membership we are exploring another stress response:
🦌Fawn.
Fawning happens when the body feels unsafe and believes that the safest thing to do is to keep the peace, avoid conflict, make others happy, go along with what other people want, or make ourselves smaller.
Unlike fight, where we push back, or flight, where we want to get away, fawn often says:
"Just keep everyone happy."
"Don't cause a problem."
"Just agree."
"Keep the peace."
"Don't upset anyone."
🙆♀️Sometimes this can look like apologising when you've done nothing wrong.
Sometimes it can look like agreeing with someone even though you don't actually agree.
Sometimes it can look like taking responsibility for things that aren't yours to carry.
Sometimes it can look like laughing things off, making jokes, changing the subject, acting silly, or trying to diffuse tension because your body doesn't feel safe with conflict.
🐕For example, your dog might bark at someone while you're out walking.
Instead of calmly explaining the situation, you might find yourself saying:
"I'm so sorry."
"I don't know why he's doing that."
"Hes a silly dog, Im so sorry."
🫣Even when you've done nothing wrong.
Or perhaps someone blames you for something and, rather than speaking up, you take the blame anyway because it feels easier than creating tension.
Fawning isn't weakness.
It's a stress response.
It's your nervous system trying to keep you safe in the best way it knows how.
✨️Today's invitation is simply awareness.
As you move through your day, notice if there are any moments where you make yourself smaller, stay quiet, agree when you don't really agree, apologise unnecessarily, or put someone else's comfort before your own.
Just notice.
Notice what happens in your body.
Notice your thoughts.
Notice your words.
Notice your behaviour.
Your noticing is gold ✨️ because awareness is the key to your freedom.
You might notice examples from your past, relationships, family dynamics, friendships, or work situations.
This week in the membership is about bringing awareness to a pattern that often goes unnoticed.
✨️And remember, awareness is powerful.
Once you become aware of something, you can begin to understand it.
And when you understand it, you can begin to support yourself with compassion and choice.
