📌 Follow for more on how to change your child’s hardest behaviour by changing how you react to it.

My child was diagnosed and medicated on her behaviour, with no conversation about how that behaviour was formed.

This is what I wish someone had told me.

Behaviour is shaped by:

1. Genetic sensitivity, some kids are wired to feel more, faster

2. What’s underneath, thoughts, feelings, and stress response. Focusing here changes behaviour.

3. How emotionally safe the relationship feels ( if I show you how I feel, what happens to me?)

4. How emotionally predictable you are
( which version of you am I getting today?)

5. Warmth and structure, together, not one or the other

6. Lifestyle.

This doesn’t have to replaces diagnosis or medication where it’s needed.

It’s what’s missing alongside it.

👋 If you’re new here, hi. I’m Laura, an undiagnosed ADHD mum and emotional health coach who learned to completely change my emotional responses, which completely changed my daughter’s life.

These are the 7 things I literally beg mums of neurodivergent kids to do.
Because for years I did the opposite. Fixing the behaviour. Pushing independence too early. Worrying what school and family thought. Running on fear.

Here’s what I know now:

1️⃣ Believe the best in them. Always.
If you see the best in them, they learn to see the best in themselves.
2️⃣ Become an emotionally safe mum.
Not calm. Authentic. Own your emotions and hold the boundary with connection.
3️⃣ Look at their behaviour as biology.
Tricky behaviour means their stress response has fired. They’re fighting their way back to baseline.
4️⃣ Be ok with supporting them more.
Support them for longer and they reach independence sooner, with less burnout on the way.
5️⃣ Put connection over everything.
When they feel they matter more than being right or on time, confidence follows.
6️⃣ Advocate for their needs.
These aren’t excuses, they’re accommodations. They’ll hear your strong voice and learn to use their own.
7️⃣ Manage your fear.
The fear in your body speaks to your child’s body, and creates more of the behaviour you’re trying to avoid.

And the good news?

Every one of these starts with you. Which means every one of these is something you can change.

We’ve been told regulation means staying calm. Not raising your voice. Holding it all together.

So we swallow it. We say “I don’t mind” when we do. We keep the peace and lose ourselves.

But calm on the outside isn’t regulation. Research shows that suppressing emotion raises stress in your body, and your child picks up on it. They can feel the gap between what you’re showing and what you’re feeling.

Real regulation takes courage. It means speaking up, owning what you feel, and holding a boundary even when it’s uncomfortable.

When a mum does this, things change at home. Her child stops testing limits that were never really there. Behaviour settles, because they finally know where they stand. They stop carrying her emotions as well as their own.

And her life changes too. Less resentment. Less guilt. More of her own life back.

This is the work we do in The Leadership Method Coaching Edition. It’s 12 weeks with 12 individual modules, and you can jump in any time. By the end, you’ll be able to hold boundaries that transform your child’s behaviour.

I was stuck in this loop of emotional manipulation, with my daughter for years. I also believe the emotional enmeshment fed into her OCD and PDA diagnosis.

So let’s shortcut your journey.
