Calling all home lovers- this one's for you!!
especially all of you that live with kids (especially teenage boys) and fur babies nnow we love them all buuuuttt they can make your house a bit smelly-definite eau de puppy
so my top tips for a beautifully scented home and probably how I have ended up with a home fragrance brand as the need to feel like I live in boutique hotel instead of a hostel is high 😂
Tip 1
its the age old truth buy cheap buy twice I have a real issue with scents that smell fake like cheap perfume or overly sickly.
I only wear Jo Malone and only like about 3 of those as it is (if you check out my wax melts you might see a few inspired by in there 🤔
so spend as much as your budget allows
Tip 2
double up on diffuser & candle if you have a big room or like a lot of people open plan kitchen living the cooking smells can be an issue and one candle won't be enough to fill the space. have a diffuser in the kitchen all the time and light your candle or candles depending on the space as and when needed.
Tip 3 fresh scented flowers great for a space that you spend alot of time in.
Tip 4 open all the windows and doors and get that fresh air washing through your home then light your favourite candle (after you have closed everything)

Ever wish you could go back in time and tell yourself something you now know? Me too. If I could go back in time, I’d tell my former self to be more accepting of myself to go easy on myself accept my strengths and wekness's I look forward to the day that my small business has enough candles & diffusers in peoples homes to have a team of two so someone can help me with the accounts & invoicing side and I can crack on with the creating side.

you know those days when you have done everything for everyone and you think to yourself why can’t someone do something for me?….instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you, you have to do it for yourself.
I know right imagine that making a decision about what you need and erm doing it….so what do you need? Is it a warm uninterrupted bath personally I like a scolding hot bath 🥵 maybe light a candle or two? Read your book? Catch up on your favourite binge on Netflix, go for a run? Yoga? Take 10 mins, take 30 mins maybe even a whole hour or maybe maybe take the whole darn day ☺️ this us the space Calma Home spa was made for the bit in between the doing for everyone else the space in time that’s just yours 💕

A Gratitude journal is a great thing to note down with a cuppa or your morning coffee 3 things each day that you are grateful for my 3 things to day are, 1. my DD is off sick from school today and because I have dropped down to being at work 2 days a week I was able to be home for her guilt free and get on with all my other spinning plates as a small business 2. the sun is shining it might be one of the last days we get so very thankful for it 3. A Randox drop box has appeared in hertford today! grateful to not have to drive to Biggleswade or Bushey our closest next time we go on holiday Randox also happen to be the cheapest PCR tests 😁 and so far have been super reliable

News flash you don't need to leave a candle burning for hours and hours to have a beautifully scented home....so you just treated yourself to a beautiful new candle and you want it to last ages and ages I hear ya!
theses beauties are not cheap to buy but on a cost to sniff ratio totally totally worth and they are designed to last ages whilst your home also smells beautiful for ages too!
so this is my most important tip for making your lovely new candle last and last!
burn all the way to the edge very important for the first burn as if it doesn't burn all the way to the edge you have essentially you set the candle to burn to a slightly small pool each time you light it.
every time you light it trim the wick to approx 5mm this stops massive flames and in turn stops the wax getting to hot and burning downwards too quickly.
each time you light the candle make sure the burn pool of melted wax goes all the way to the edge and looks an even colour (so you know is evenly melted)
2 hours maximum burn time for each time you light your candle, blow it out wait for it to reset before relighting 💫
go enjoy hours and hours of a beautifully scented home 🏡

Let’s talk tea lights….we all have that 100 bag bought whilst wandering round IKEA and if you have them they are the perfect size for use in an oil burner🙌
4 hours is the maximum size to use in oil burners/wax melt warmers and actually should only be burnt for 2 hours at a time…
which should be more than enough time to fill the room with wax melt loveliness if you are using Calma Home Spa melts obv 🤩
Bit more tea light advice, don’t burn down right to the bottom especially if the container is metal as it can get very hot and possibly too hot for the oil burner/wax melt warmer it’s sitting in.
If you would like an eco friendly tea light all our wax melt warmers come with a soy wax tea light in a recyclable container 🍃

The act of being grateful, some days it’s easy, some days it’s hard when you are going through tough times.
At the end of a yoga class as a teacher we always have a little saying that we say to close the class, with closed eyes and our hands together 🙏
Blessings and love to send out to others, I am grateful that I get to do that for others.
A wish for them, also brings it home for me.
Kind thoughts, kind words, kind heart ❤️
The things I am grateful for that spring to mind when I am struggling for the good in a situation is the easy ones.
My children, the roof over our head, the food on our table.
Gratitude is also the name of one of our scents and a great one to use in meditation when you want to set an intention of gratitude.

New candle day…is that a thing?
Well if is now!
I love getting a new candle out of the packaging how it smells before it’s lit, the crisp white wick and watching the first burn pool fill the glass, waiting to see how the room smells :)
Each and every time I choose a new fragrance for anew scent for calma
I go through this process.
Generally if I don’t like it unlit I don’t like it lit either…Except sometimes they seem a bit much unlit too concentrated but when they are lit and the scent dilutes into the room they become firm favorites.
Like the difference between the first spray of perfume versus a few hours later.
Just like perfumes home fragrance has top middle and bottom notes of scent.
Over the next week or so I am going to share candle care to make them last ages 🙌
