SGS launches several new products today:

Firstly, the Large Gaming Hill (6.5" x 7.5"), this product has a very shallow gradient which allows models to easily balance as well as gorgeous aesthetics. Secondly, we have revamped the trenches section. The simple addition of the 45 degree angle has allowed two bundle deals; the Large and Small Trench Networks. The Trench Template (flat) is now available separately, as is the new Trench Corner, but customers might prefer the more pleasing aesthetic of the network effect, where you can link up the pieces as you see fit. Perhaps a thematic board of trench warfare! Trenches can be seen here:

SGS Product Info:

Today sees the launch of a whole set of terrain, seen below in the photographs. The terrain is all woodland themed and generic enough to fit with any small (circa 28mm) wargame.

Two 'Tree Stumps', with ~50mm diameter footprints; designed to provide an obstruction, but also a tree for the Forest Templates that SGS produces. If used as the latter they are actually easier to manoeuvre miniatures around than the standard 'bushy' trees that inevitably spend the duration of the game on the side line!

'Camp-site', an area terrain piece with a removable fireplace for ease of miniature placement. Lots of woodland details, as seen.

'Loggers Shack'; a small footprint building (~2" x 2") which is lavishly detailed in the woodland theme, a worn saw, rope and other rickety details make this the centrepiece of many a pitch or battlefield!

'Loggers Timber Stack'; in keeping with the theme, this slightly larger footprint piece provides a great looking piece of obstructive terrain, similarly to the others is highly detailed and will make your field look amazing!

Similarly to the 'Rocky' and 'Swampy' huge base inserts (released mid February), these gorgeous designs are remastered versions of the original huge base models. They offer the opportunity to keep the original plastic base whilst being able to neatly fit the insert and dynamically improve the miniatures aesthetics - remember "faces and bases"!

Today sees the launch of three new products, firstly "White Lily" flower tufts, the first of a new series of upcoming Battlefield Scenics Range products. The White Lily flowers were added in order to provide contrast and balance to the existing and forthcoming flower colours as well as a stand-alone flower tuft. They feature the same high quality base materials and again are self adhesive allowing for easy application. Their colour is a more natural off-white; see the link below:

The second and third new products are new 'Huge' base inserts, remastered versions of the popular Rocky and Swampy huge bases. The new inserts allow hobbiests the opportunity to use their original plastic base, taking advantage of the 90 degree arc markers and pinning through the resin if so desired.

The final two photos show the Blightbringer miniature, recently released by Privateer Press, attached to the new Rocky insert. As seen it fits perfectly and post pinning the model in place it was aligned perfectly to its arcs. The close up shows the insert fitting snugly to the original plastic. As noted in the previous announcement, SGS has designed a second building, the 'Narrow Town House', which is now available here:

This new building is a very similar design to the 'Ruined Tower' making them both very usable on the same battlefield; however featuring an intact Tudor style building reminiscent of the Steampunk genre. Both buildings can be seen in direct comparison in the fourth picture below.

The Narrow Town House is characterised by many fine details, the brickwork allows easy dry-brushing techniques to pick out the fantastic textures and old styled carved pattern. This contrasts sharply with the wooden beam and lumpy plaster of the upper floors, as per the Tudor styling. Windows and doors are all framed and like the beams have light wood grain fine detail.

To help launch the two buildings SGS teamed up with "Hall Hall Of Legends", a blog site specialising in table-top wargaming, writing fantastic battle reports and highly interesting articles for games such as Warmachine and Guildball, where SGS terrain and bases are exceptionally suitable. Jayke Nikolas Hall, great friend and the author of Halls of Legend, offered to play a game using several of the new buildings to put them through their paces and show case how good they make the battlefield look, yet be not too intrusive as a result. Something almost impossible to achieve for games such as Warmachine, that seldom see a building anywhere near the action! With great pleasure SGS launches the first of its new buildings range. The Ruined Tower has a very small footprint (approx 3"x2"), therefore not being too intrusive in game terms, but enough to present a tactical challenge!

The Ruined Tower features a great many details that can be seen in the three photos below which paint up extremely well. The grey example below is further enhanced as a ruined building with careful placement of BATTLEFIELD SCENICS tufts, which SGS also produces, to create the overgrown weeds look often seen in such derelicts!

It is with great pleasure that SGS launches its 'Battlefield Scenics Range' today! A new series of products designed to complement the existing resin bases and terrain ranges:

TUFTS:
Four distinct colour ranges;
-Green Pasture
-Marshland
-Moorland
-Heathland

The tufts were carefully selected for height, footprint size, composition and adhesive qualities. Much time and effort was taken to perfect the product and many hours spent experimenting to get the best quality. This led on to..

Xp TUFTS:
Four Xpert, or special tuft ranges;
-Summer Meadows
-Poppy Fields
-12mm Jungle Tufts
-Winter Wilderness
The Xp range of tufts is designed to supplement the main tufts and for more occasional use, hence only one sheet (x48), but at a cheaper price. They can be seen using the same link as above.
Again careful consideration was made developing these complex tufts and they will add a significant level of detail to any finished base.

SGS tufts can be used individually, or in combination with each other and the 2mm static grasses to create truly unique and striking base styles, they complement the resin bases and terrain perfectly. The flower tufts, for example, add a strong colour to what could be a bland base and the extra high 12mm Jungle Tufts making a perfect addition to the 'Swampy Bases' range. The four main tuft styles come in small and medium footprint sizes, which is very handy when covering either large or small areas. SGS also now offers FREE UK postage on its tuft products!

STATIC GRASS:
To complement the new tuft range SGS is also supplying a small range of 2mm static grasses, Spring, Summer and Winter as well as 0.5mm snow flock. These are available in a handy 10g tub or in a 20g refill bag, the latter qualifies for FREE UK postage.

BASING SAND:
To complement the tufts and static grasses a coarse grade sand is also available, though SGS recommends using its own resin bases to save time! Available in 100g tubs and 200g refill bags.

SGS recently launched two brand new base ranges; Wooden Deck and Cobbled Street, the latter sculpted by Andy McBirnie . These two new base ranges formed the spearhead of a new section: Warband Base Packs, where a set of eight bases come in a pack ideal for a small warband. Games such as Bushido, Guild Ball and Malifaux will all be ideally suited.

The two new Warband Base packs were supplemented with three existing ranges to provide a wealth of basing options. In order to fully support the very small scale 'warband' style SGS also now offers these bases individually, so for example you needed a couple of extra 30mm bases and one more 40mm then you can order this exact amount.

Wooden Deck bases:
These new bases feature wooden planks in a state of heavy use with damaged areas and curls of rope to add detail and interest to the base. Cobbled Street bases:
This design of base depicts a medieval cobbled street, with flagstones for paved areas and cobbles for road areas. There area great many exquisite details such as drains, grates and gutters as well as occasional missing cobbles for avid hobbiests to add water effects and growing weeds if desired! This base range is the most detailed and gorgeous looking range SGS produces and this is thanks to Andy McBirnie who sculpted the masters. SmogCon 2016 tickets went live this Monday and are selling fast, see their website for more details. http://smogcon.org/

SGS has completed half of the terrain order for this most prestigious event which will see the combination of Gamemat EU rubber 4' square mats and SGS terrain at the event next February. See the photos and descriptions below of this ideal combination: [edit, click on the +16 to see all the photos!]

There will be three styles of gaming environment: the grassy 'standard' type featuring brown earth and ample bright green grass coverage where the rocky features are picked out in a a slatey grey. This would typify a temperate environment similar to that of much of 'Western Immoren'.

The arid scheme sees a very warm colour palette and depicts an area close to the desert where the earth is very sandy and vegetation is sparse and very dry, contrasting deeply with the lush temperate scheme. The rocks and stone features have an iron stone colour, which again differs greatly. This environment could be that of the 'Bloodstone Desert'.

Finally, the 'frozen' tundra type environment differs greatly again from the arid and grassy schemes. The earth is a frozen blue/grey colour with a healthy snow coverage, but not enough to obliterate the fine details of the SGS terrain. Vegetation is completely lacking in this scheme, it was decided the environment was too cold for any plantlife! The rocks and stone features are similar to the temperate scheme, but darker in comparison. Perhaps the most striking feature is the frozen shallow water which features a blue hue and typifies this chilly northern 'Howling Wastes' environment!

SGS announcement:

Recently SGS launched the 'starter' and 'expansion' Pitches of Terrain product aimed at small skirmish medieval football games such as the fantastic new Guild Ball (http://guildball.com/) made by Steamforged Games Ltd. These have been very popular amongst local Guild Ball players and many pitches have taken advantage of the new interesting terrain features. My own Brewers' "Scum" character skidding over the fast ground in an effort to evade Luke Foster's Fishermen!

Steamforged Games will be running a tournament at the Games Expo, Birmingham later this month and commissioned SGS to produce a wide variety of painted terrain for this event (and others). The order included some new pieces such as a 3" forest template and two 3" rough ground templates, these can be seen in the photo below and will be available to purchase shortly.

SGS was also approached by independent miniature/games reviewer Doc Bungle aka David Wilkinson to put the new terrain under the microscope, the review can be read here:

A fantastic venue, which I have frequented many times and really enjoy visiting; they will be using SGS Pitches of Terrain for their first Guild Ball tournament.
