🏥 You've Had Your Appointment — What`s happening about my hospital referral?
Great — you've had your appointment and your clinician has discussed referring you to a hospital service👍
Once your referral has been made, your clinician will prioritise it appropriately based on clinical need 👩‍⚕️📋
However, after the referral has been sent, the surgery no longer has control over how long you may wait for an appointment at the hospital⏳
We know waiting can be frustrating, especially when you're keen to move things forward 😔
If you'd like to check on your referral:
📲 check in your NHS App in Appointments, under hospital appointments section will be the referrals or waiting lists
📞you can contact the hospital appointments reception called the Community Patient Contact Centre 01524 511966
Please be aware that this is also a very busy phone line, so you may experience waiting times when calling.
⏰ Unfortunately, referrals to hospital and specialist services often involve long waiting times, and these are set by the hospital services themselves.
What you can do:
✅ Keep an eye on your NHS App for appointment updates or in your text messages or by post.
✅ Contact the hospital appointments team if you're concerned about delays

Thank you for your patience and understanding — we know waiting isn’t easy, and we’re here to support you while you wait 💙

🤒 BMG patients, sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, a clinician may ring in sick at short notice because they are genuinely unwell.

We know how frustrating this can be when you’ve been waiting for an appointment, and we completely understand the disappointment caused when appointments need to be rearranged. 💙

But would you really want to be seen by a clinician who is coughing, unwell, or potentially passing bugs on to vulnerable patients? 🦠🤧

When this happens, our teams work incredibly hard behind the scenes to rearrange appointments and make alternative plans wherever possible. Unfortunately, this isn’t always achievable immediately. We don’t have spare clinicians sitting around waiting with empty clinics “just in case”.

Please be kind to our reception and clinical teams when these situations arise 🙏 We promise we are doing our very best to support every patient safely and fairly. 💙

BMG patients, did you know that the community Pharmacists can provide treatment and some prescription medicine, if needed, without seeing a GP?
No need to phone us or wait for an appointment, just call at your local pharmacy.
To find local pharmacy locations and opening times visit: https://www.nhs.uk/find-a-pharmacy
These 7 conditions can be treated by a pharmacist under the NHS :
✅Earache (age 1 to 17)
✅Sinusitis (age 12 and over)
✅Sore throat (age 5 and over)
✅Infected insect bite
✅Impetigo, a skin infection
✅Shingles (age 18 and over)
✅Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women (age 16 to 64)
If you are exempt from prescription charges, for example if you are under 16 or over 60, or if you have a prescription prepayment certificate, you will not pay for the medicine prescribed.

🌊 Drowning Prevention Saves Lives 💙

BMG patients, if you are heading off to that perfect spot for lazing about in the river or in Morecambe bay somewhere, make sure you and your loved ones are prepared and protected.

Here are some simple tips to help keep everyone safe:

👀 Always supervise children – never take your eyes off them near water
🚫 No alcohol near water – it impairs judgment and coordination
🌧 Be aware of your surroundings – weather, tides, currents and hidden dangers
🦺 Use safety equipment – life jackets save lives!
🏊‍♂️ Learn to swim and know basic water safety skills
If you are struggling in water- Tilt your head back with ears submerged.
Try and relax and move your hands to help stay afloat

💧 Anyone can drown — no one should. Let’s keep each other safe. 💛

BMG patients, if you have an appointment on Thursday 28th May, please factor in that there are road closures mainly around the promenade area for the filming of "The Bay" and give yourself plenty of time to get to your appointment.
This is the information regarding the temporary closures:
A temporary traffic regulation order is in place for this Thursday, May 28, on Marine Road East from its junction with Broadway to its junction with Lord Street, from 6am to noon, and then from the Lord Street to Northumberland Street junctions from noon to 6pm.
There is also a traffic regulation order for Skipton Street, Back Crescent Street, Graham Street, Derby Street, Tunstall Street and Anderton Street from 6pm to 8pm that day.

🚦 Traffic Update 🚦

BMG patients, please be aware there are significant traffic delays this morning around the Heysham area.
🚗 Traffic is currently backed up from the Heysham Roundabout towards the port, extending back towards the Strawberry Gardens pub.

At present, we are unsure whether this is due to the recent changes to port operating times, ongoing roadworks, or a combination of both. Although changes were introduced to help improve traffic flow, there appears to be a substantial knock-on effect across the local road network this morning.

⚠️ Alternative routes, including Kingsway, are also experiencing heavy congestion as drivers try to avoid the main delays.

As a result, both patients and clinicians may experience delays arriving for appointments today. We appreciate your patience and understanding while disruption continues 💙

Please allow extra travel time where possible ⏰

BMG patients, we know life gets busy and it’s easy to forget to order your repeat prescription on time.
In the month of April 2026, our fabulous clinical and medicines management team processed on average 5️⃣7️⃣3️⃣1️⃣prescriptions every day.

To help us please can we ask that you:
Plan ahead check your medicine supply.
Let the team know the reason if you have run out earlier than you should.
⏳....did you know you can order up to 10 days in advance? ✅ Even controlled drugs can be requested, they will be postdated for the date due.
