Loved meeting the team at Motorpoint Arena Nottingham which is home of the panthers ice hockey team and to spend the day with Ryan and meeting amanda was just amazing and the very best bit of our job.

Nottingham, home of Robin of loxey and The Nottingham Panthers and also MemSaab Nottingham possibly the best Indian in the town and well worth a visit

Notional doors are suitable in some cases

Fire safety is just starting to change, and at last a more pragmatic view is going to be taken on fire doors - and it’s long overdue! I can’t begin to fathom the amount of money wasted on unnecessary repairs and replacements.

Firefighters will tell you that even most honeycomb doors remain intact after a complete room fire. So why do we insist on repairing and replacing every single door that falls slightly short of full compliance?

Take a school - no child has died in a school fire for over 40 years

The wrong size screws, or the door handle is not rated to 800 degrees, is really unlikely to result in a death but more important is shutting the doors and accepting that a good fitting notional door is likely to do a really good job. But when combined with early detection and training in an office block is probably going to be ok.

A fire risk assessor’s role should be to make an informed judgement considering all these relevant factors.

Other escape options, the people at risk, other measures like sprinklers, whether people are sleeping or awake, and the alarm system are all important considerations.

However, we must start by educating the fire services and their enforcement officers. While we all understand that fire doors are crucial for fire safety, they’re not the only factor. A holistic and pragmatic approach is needed.

Three days ago….. 𝑄̇=𝛼𝑡2 all that equaled my head full of clouds and pretty butterfly’s and not much more….

Well until 3 days ago I felt I was pretty good at the old fire safety stuff and risk assessing, and then you attend a course where everyone in the room are all experts! Really they are! And all of them! Each one, just and outstanding professional in there own right and they are just the students.

And then you have teachers, well they know 5 to 10 times what the other experts in the room know, and then they work for fella that’s forgotten more about any thing they can ever even hope to know, actually he probally hasn’t forgotten anything!!. But you get my point.

The biggest learning for me, was just don’t ever stop trying to get better, to even be able to sit at a table like this you need to earn that position, you need to work really hard and study even harder. And each time you make a step up in level or grade, then look forward and understand the next step is even harder. And these steps will never end! Your learning will keep stretching out in front of you.

For those just starting there journery, strap in! It’s a hard ride and one you can never finish, just aim to be the best version of yourself and commit to learn each and everyday, stay current and smash your CPD and push yourself new levels and subjects.

Good luck x
