This Thursday, our Home Education group are starting something new at The Wild Mane Project 🔨🌱

We’re beginning work on our new Outdoor Science & Creative Area, and we want our Home Ed children and young people to help us create it.

There’ll be designing, measuring, planning, making, building, painting and sign making, with plenty of room for their own ideas too.

This isn’t something we’re building for them. We want them involved in creating a space they’ll actually use for science experiments, investigations and creative projects over the coming months and years.

Suitable for different ages and abilities, everyone can get stuck in in their own way.

🌳 FREE CONSERVATION HOME ED SESSION 🌳

We are teaming up with the City of Trees on Wednesday 23rd September for a conservation day, and we have opened up some FREE spaces for our Home Education families to get involved.

🌳 We’ll be working on the saplings across the land, replacing and repairing tree shelters, clearing vegetation and re-mulching 🌳

🤓 This is an additional session and our usual Thursday Home Education session will run as normal.

🐾 Spaces are limited. Please book a place for every person attending, including adults.

🎖 A Wild Mane Challenge Badge or certificate (whichever is preferred) will be earned by each child.

🐴 Bring Equine-Based Programmes Into Your Provision 🌳

Schools, Alternative Provisions and PRUs already do a huge amount to support their pupils, but one setting cannot always provide every intervention or environment a young person needs.

The Wild Mane Project can become an additional part of that provision. 🐴🌳🐾

We provide 1:1 programmes combining work with our ponies, nature, wilderness living skills, outdoor learning and therapeutic approaches. Each programme is built around the individual pupil, their identified needs, what they are working towards and the support already around them.

🌳 If your setting already provides Forest School, we can focus more heavily on equine-based work. If a pupil needs support around anxiety, emotional regulation, engagement, communication or self-esteem, we can build their programme around those needs.

We already work alongside schools and local services, so our provision can sit alongside education and other support already in place.

🏫 Schools, APs & PRUs — talk to us about building targeted 1:1 provision around the needs of your pupils, using our ponies, nature, wilderness skills and therapeutic approaches.

❤ Parents & carers — if you think this could be a useful part of your child’s provision, speak to their school, SEND team or the professionals supporting them about The Wild Mane Project.

Sometimes it isn’t about finding one provision that does everything. It is about bringing the right support together around the young person 🐾

We've been working on something new behind the scenes… Therapeutic & Wellbeing Riding is coming to Wild Mane.

After lots of requests asking whether riding will become part of what we offer, we can finally say yes! ❤

Individual, supported riding sessions with the same therapeutic and wellbeing approach we bring to everything we do at The Wild Mane Project.

For our existing 1:1 participants, riding may also become part of their sessions they already have, where appropriate.

Our waiting list is now open, ready for sessions starting soon.

👩‍🏫👩‍👧‍👦TEACHERS, SCHOOLS & PARENTS — THIS ONE IS FOR YOU! 🤓

We’re bringing a little bit of Wild Mane into the classroom! 🌳🐴🐾

Our Whole Class Workshops are practical, curriculum-linked sessions for a full class, delivered in your school. Workshops where your whole class can get involved.

Choose from Badger Detectives, Tree Explorers, Tracks & Signs, Working Ponies: Past & Present — bringing local history into the classroom, or Under Our Feet: Microhabitats. Every workshop is adapted to the age and needs of the class.

Workshops are 60–90 minutes and start from £150 per class, with reduced rates when schools book several classes on the same day.

👩‍🏫 Teachers — have a look at what we can bring into your school via our website our feel free to email us.

🐴 HOME EDUCATION THIS WEEK!

This week we’re having a session with the ponies!

We’ll be learning how to give a pony a basic health check, where you will each do your own, what do we look at, what are we feeling for and how do we know when something isn’t quite right?

Then it’s headcollar on for Teddy and off for a lead walk, learning how to safely lead, stop and use our voices.

We had a upsetting incident last night 😢🐴

We were contacted to say that a group of teenagers were in the field chasing the ponies, climbing on the fencing and throwing a chair around them. We called the police, who were there when we arrived.

We found out that a coat had been thrown onto the ponies, particularly Monty, to make them buck. The police spoke to the group and we all talked to them about just how dangerous this could be not only for them, but for the ponies trying to get away, if somebody were to accidentally get kicked by a frightened pony 🐴

Thankfully, when we went over to see the ponies, Esmeray came straight to us, Monty was nervous but then came over and stayed with us and Teddy tucked his head underneath my arm. They were all safe and not hurt, but nobody should be deliberately frightening them in their own home 🌳

We hope everyone understands that today we have chosen to cancel our sessions to help our ponies to rest and give them some much-needed TLC. As a small not-for-profit therapeutic organisation, cancelling sessions isn't a decision we take lightly, but our ponies are at the heart of what we do and their welfare has to come first. We are sorry we have needed to do this and hope to see you all next week. ❤🥰

Our ponies are a huge part of The Wild Mane Project. They work with children and young people, but this is also their home. When our sessions finish and we go home, they live here. ❤❤🐴🌳🐴

So we are asking everyone who uses the permitted path through Horses Field to please help us look after them. 🌳 Stay on the permitted path, keep your dogs on a lead, give the ponies plenty of space and please don't enter the grazing areas to walk, exercise dogs or spend time with the ponies.

❌ Please don't feed them either. Something that seems like a harmless treat can make a pony extremely poorly and some foods can kill them. They are also therapeutic ponies and we don't hand feed them as part of how we work with them.

🚶‍♀️If you would prefer a walk away from the ponies, there are alternative footpath routes from Hillview Road.

Most people who pass through are respectful of our ponies and what we are doing here, and we really appreciate that. We have an amazing support network in Dane Bank. Thank you.

Please just remember when you pass through, you're walking through their home, please leave them to live there peacefully ❤️🐴
