Good, quality, judgement is a crucial part of our reasoned decision making process.ย  This could be both personal or professional.

When we rely too heavily on others, or indeed on Artificial Intelligence AI, we are bypassing the natural brain activity through which judgement is formed.

Going forward, our ability to judge is not then lost in a single moment, but gradually by relying too heavily on something or someone else.

How does this resonate for you?

Here, in one of my very favourite places, the sheer noise level of the water is thunderous.
It is also here that my mind is stilled.

In such noise I find the most silence.

Where do you go to experience peace of mind?

How do you respond to the start of a new day?
What are your habits, your rituals?

How much does the having, or not having, them impact your day?

For me, walking. Wherever I am.

If you would like to explore the theory behind morning rituals, therapy is a gentle place to begin unpacking this concept.

I find this thought from Henri Nouwen, a respected Dutch philosopher, hugely satisfying. It really plays into my own philosophy of living life with intention.

The power to choose is one which should not be discarded lightly.ย  Where will you choose to find joy today? Will it be as small as a wonderful little glimmer or as big as a whole sky full of fireworks?

If you choose to look, I'll bet it will be there somewhere...

Blue Mind.....
The positive power of being near water is proven again and again in research.

You know I love a beach walk, but any body of water works in the same way.

Today, beach and then canal...perfect start to the day.

Socrates philosophised at length about motives, consequences and the element of choice.

When taking all these factors into account, there is the hope that 'I will live a good life.'
A felt sense that we have done our best and are pleased with our endeavours.

Thinking, unpacking life choices may be difficult alone. The therapeutic alliance created within therapy allows for exploration, challenge and question.

It can be a difficult road, one made 'easier' when sharing the weight of such self exploration with another. A gentle connection...

What is your relationship with change?
Do you relish it or run as far away from it as possible?

Change, of course, is inevitable but actually processing those thoughts takes time, effort and potentially courage.

Sometimes to be fully open to change, we also need to become vulnerable.

Therapy allows space and time for such exploration, and for your vulnerability to be held.

It can be useful to press pause, take a moment and reflect on ourselves and on our lives. To take stock, if you like.

What do we want?
And what we want now is not necessarily what we wanted yesterday. What if we are actually uncertain about our needs and wants?

Sometimes, asking ourselves the question can be enough. Alternatively, changing one thing and seeing how that feels can also be very insightful.

Then the process of taking stock again, a continual cycle...

People pleasing may feel like a kind and compassionate thing to do, but at what cost to ourselves?

In order to nurture ourselves we need to formulate boundaries that feel safe and reassuring.
However, maintaining boundaries is not always easy.

There can be an unhealthy feeling of responsibility and alongside that, guilt, when we start to think about how the other person is feeling. At this point we may go back on our boundary, feelings of resentment surface and the need for a new boundary becomes important.

If you would like support in boundary setting, understand how to break the responsibility loop and begin to feel more regulated, therapy is a calm space in which to explore this.
