Its Mental Health Awareness week and this year's theme is take ACTION.

Over recent years there has been more movement in talking about mental health.

For those who may not know where to start? 'Take action' to look after yourself is a starting point. Taking small steps can have a big impact
💭 Getting enough sleep
💭 Talking with someone you know or trust
💭 Taking the time for yourself to 'check in'

Action helps us take the right steps to do something that can bring change, it can help our decision making and overall helps us to get talking about it. Put the kettle on, have a chat, even if it is with yourself.

A space to discuss thoughts, feelings and look to see what is going on in your life, or how you can be impacted by others.

A space to understand root causes that lead to unhelpful patterns that may have been used as a way of coping.

This is a space to talk, 'vent' and unpick your day, cry or laugh- so much can be shared.

Talking with someone can help recognise why you feel a certain way and figure out what you want to do with it, in a safe space to do so.

And.... anxiety can return.

When anxiety is experienced, many people say 'i want it gone, remove it' and will avoid if possible.

Let's view it differently.

Anxiety can be an alarm bell. It's trying to tell you something.
It may shout louder at times, it may make you believe things that are unhelpful.

But removing it, we actually 'squash it down' and then it can come back louder and grumpier than before.

Listening to your body, seeing what is happening is something we explore in counselling. We learn to manage anxiety- when It appears, what sets off the alarm and why is it louder (perhaps) than usual.

You may not want to meet it, maybe it wants to meet you.

I don't know fear until I need to put on my gardening gloves!

Spring 'has sprung' as my annual greenhouse turnover is happening. Lots of reminders of what can work out, re-done and moments of enjoyment with some warm sun!

Equally plenty of mishaps already.. mixed seed packets, things thrown in and going with 'what will be... what's the worst that can happen?'.

A new year to bloom!

The season if not upon us, will be.

Coming soon, a series of workshops designed to support Preparation, Sitting Exams, results and ALL THE INBETWEEN!

Organising, revising, sleep, eating and drinking, pressure points and expectations- the list could go on.

This is before stepping into a room and sitting down in front of that piece of paper.

Breaking things down, understanding and exploring ways to cope and manage alongside self care will be at the heart of these workshops.

Please get in touch with any interest or 'specifics' but equally, stay tuned.
