Hello everyone,
Sunday’s soundbath at Aldington was really wonderful to be part of. There were a lot of new people who had never attended a soundbath before and there was so much wonderful feedback about people’s experiences. So there a lot of new faces both here and on my Facebook Group. If you want to be included in my email invitations please pm me with your email address ( if you are not currently receiving them)
In the gong playing fraternity people often say that gongs need to be ‘played in’ and that they intensify in their effect over time. I never understood why. However the more I play these incredible instruments the deeper the sound journey seems to go and the intensity of the effect has increased and deepened. I never know where the gongs are going to take me but every time I am surprised by what they emit.
A few months ago I started singing using ‘overtoning’ to accompany my shruti box. Because I have never really had confidence to sing it took a leap of faith. I have had so many comments about the impact of the singing. It is part of a profound personal journey I have been on and I now love to offer this as part of the soundbaths. The human voice is one of the most powerful instruments we can use.
I wanted to talk more about some special events coming up.
On the 31st May we have our usual Godmersham Soundbath 6-7pm and I love playing there. The people who come along are so wonderful and the energy at the end of the sessions is very special. Please let me know if you want to reserve a place.
On the 10th June we have a Yoga and Sound release session 6-9pm.
Years ago my yoga teacher brought his teacher in from India. This man didn’t actually demonstrate any asanas (postures) He looked intently at people and wandered around the room touching people gently pointing out where they needed to make adjustments in their postures. It was fascinating. These deeper aspects of yoga are often overlooked in classes for various reasons.
I am thrilled to be working with John Scott-Petty who has many years of yoga , Qigong and martial arts training and an incredibly knowledgeable eye on what people need to do to find release in their bodies.
He will be teaching some yoga (nothing extreme) but instead of doing them without focus and thought he will be teaching the subtler more profound aspects of the postures. In addition he will be able to see where parts of the body, often by subtle shifts of awareness, can release.
Iyengar’s book ‘Light on Life’ is fascinating. In it he talks about the inner awareness during asana practice how with focus and inner awareness you may have done a Warrior Pose a thousand times but it was as if you were doing it for the first time.
If you can make the date I would encourage you not to miss this incredible opportunity.
I will be using sound vibrations to support the practice and the release.
There has been a lot of interest in this session and I have had a number of bookings with people even coming from Sussex which is thrilling.
Please let me know if you would like to reserve a space.
You will need to bring a yoga mat, a pillow, a blanket and if you have it some yoga blocks.
Just to say that we are receiving bookings for the 3.5 hour Cacao Ceremony and Soundbath on 19th July 4.30-8pm. The last one was such a rich, deep journey and the feedback was so positive we have decided to make it a quarterly special event. Please book directly with Giles Mountain https://www.gilesmountain.com/events/soundimmersion/gongbath
People have already started booking for this special soundbath. Thank you 🙏
Finally, I have another idea. I was listening to to a fascinating podcast with Dr Rangan Chatterjee interviewing Professor Daisy Fancourt entitled ‘Why Creativity is the most powerful health tool you’re not using’
She talks about the scientific evidence that supports the incredible benefits to not just the mind but the body from doing something artistic or craft based. People have all their attention on diet and exercise and have no understanding of the impact on engaging in some art or craft exercise regularly. If you listen to the podcast you will not believe the science. It is astounding.
Some of you may know that my business background is helping companies and teams to think differently and I have used many creative tools to do that.
I have been wanting to offer some of these tools to people to help them in their journeys for a while.
Listening to this podcast has encouraged me to take the leap.
What I am proposing is a creativity session using sound/visual art and expression to discover aspects of yourself you probably never knew you had. The session will be a lot of fun but will be also to understand more about yourself and to also connect with people differently.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thank you to those who have told me that they would be interested in the Shamanism and the treasures from the rainforest session with Indianna.
I appreciate that these ideas are a little off-piste from soundbaths. It was always my vision to create a safe space for people to simply be and to find deep restoration and wellness.
Best regards
Martin
