We are working with the perinatal pelvic health team at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital to explore the experiences of pelvic health care received during and after pregnancy. We are looking to hear from women and birthing people who received maternity care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the past year and are now postnatal. We would like to know what was good, not good and how the care you received made you feel.
We are keen to hear from all, whether you have or have not had a lived experience of pelvic health issues to gain feedback and add your voice to improvements.
What is Pelvic Health?
Pelvic health means taking care of the parts of your body that help you go to the toilet and have babies. This includes your bladder, bowel, and womb and the muscles that support them called the pelvic floor.
Pelvic health problems might include:
• leaking of urine (p*e)
• leaking of stool (poo),
• pelvic organ prolapse (bulging or dragging in the va**na),
• third or fourth degree tears,
• postpartum sexual pain
• pelvic girdle pain
• Tummy muscle separation
2 in 3 can experience leakage of urine during pregnancy, and 1 in 12 can experience symptoms of prolapse in the year after giving birth.
Why is a service evaluation taking place?
The perinatal pelvic health service which the Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides to patients receiving maternity care is being evaluated as part of a continuous improvement process. The service was commissioned in April 2024, so we would like to better understand the impact it is having on patient experience of pelvic health care during and after pregnancy.
What is involved?
We invite anyone who is postnatal and has received maternity care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the past year to participate in a service evaluation by sharing their experiences of pelvic health care during and after pregnancy by completing a short anonymous survey.
Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect the care you receive in any way.
If you do not wish to take part, no further action is required.
What will happen to the results of the service evaluation?
The results of this service evaluation will be shared with the teams working with maternity patients at [Trust name] and Norfolk & Waveney in the perinatal pelvic health service. The results will influence how changes can be made to our service to improve patients’ experiences.
