Your skin is always communicating.

Sometimes it’s asking for more hydration, sometimes less stimulation, sometimes a richer texture as the season changes. And sometimes what you’re seeing in the skin can be influenced by what’s happening more widely sleep, stress, tension, hormones, environment, routine.

At Kyūshi, we’ve always looked at skin as part of the whole person rather than something that exists in isolation.

That doesn’t mean every skin change needs analysing. It just means we can pause long enough to notice what the skin might be asking for before we rush to add more.

And if you’re not quite sure where to begin with your own routine, our Skin Quiz is there to help you find a simple starting point.

There’s something about the shift between seasons that makes us instinctively change our rituals.

The mornings feel a little cooler. The light softens. We reach for another layer, linger a little longer over tea, and begin to turn gently inwards.

Our skin notices the change too.

As summer begins to loosen its hold, it can be the moment to bring a little more comfort back in not necessarily more products, but more attention. More nourishment. More protection. More time spent noticing what the skin is asking for.

Moisturise & Revive is one of those quiet rituals. Rich enough to cocoon the skin when it needs it, while still feeling beautifully simple.

Because seasonal skincare doesn’t have to mean an entirely new routine.

Sometimes it’s simply knowing when to add another layer.

A small shift. A softer ritual. Skin supported as the season changes.

I think we’ve created two extremes when it comes to ageing.

Either we’re expected to resist it at every turn, or we’re told we should simply “embrace it” and do nothing at all.

I don’t really sit in either camp.

At 38, I’m currently choosing not to have aesthetic treatments, but that doesn’t mean I’m passive about how I age. I care deeply about my skin. I use thoughtful skincare, facial massage, lymphatic drainage and acupuncture, and I pay attention to the things that support skin health from the inside too.

For me, ageing well is not about trying to look younger. It is about helping my skin function beautifully, supporting the structure and health of my face, and still allowing it to look like mine.

That philosophy is a huge part of why I created Kyūshi in the first place.

If that approach resonates with you, explore the Kyūshi skincare collection via the link in bio.

When life feels a little heightened, your skin can too.

This week has been an unexpected lesson in slowing down. Breaking my foot has rather abruptly changed the pace of my days, and although I’m not particularly good at sitting still, I’ve been trying to embrace it.

Longer mornings. More time to read. Painting. Red light. Facial massage. And actually taking my time over my skincare rather than rushing through it before moving onto the next thing.

Soothe & Calm is the oil I find myself reaching for at times like this.

I originally formulated it for skin that needs a little extra gentleness, but I also love the ritual of using it. The jasmine, lavender and cedarwood make it particularly beautiful in the evening, when I want my skincare to mark the transition from doing to resting.

I warm it between my hands, take a breath, and spend a few minutes massaging my face, neck and décolletage.

Sometimes caring for your skin can also be the reminder you need to slow everything else down.

One of the things I still hear surprisingly often is:

“I can’t use a facial oil because my skin is oily.”

But facial oils are far more nuanced than that.

Jojoba, for example, is technically a liquid wax, with wax esters that have similarities to those naturally found within our own sebum.

Squalane is the stable form of squalene, another lipid naturally present within sebum, and has an incredibly light, silky feel on the skin.

Then there are the essential oils I choose to use in many of the Kyūshi formulations.

They are not there simply as fragrance.

Essential oils contain complex mixtures of aromatic compounds, some of which can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled, and certain constituents have been shown to cross the blood–brain barrier. It is one of the reasons I think their inclusion should be considered and purposeful rather than an aromatic afterthought.

That does not mean every oil — botanical or essential — will suit every person.

And it certainly does not mean that putting any oil onto the face will produce the same result.

Formulation matters.

When I formulate a Kyūshi facial oil, I am thinking about the complete blend: the character of each oil, how they sit together, how the finished product feels and, most importantly, what I want it to offer the skin.

Because facial oil should not simply make your face feel oily.

It should earn its place in your routine.

Were you ever told that oily or blemish-prone skin should avoid facial oils?

Repair & Restore is the product I come back to whenever skin feels like it needs a little more support.

It is the one I reach for when my skin feels depleted, unsettled or simply a little less resilient than usual.

I formulated it to support the skin barrier and help bring the skin back to a calmer, more comfortable place - not by throwing lots of aggressive actives at it, but by working with the skin and giving it what it needs to function well.

It is also one of those products that has quietly become part of family life. Pete uses it too, and even Mable occasionally gets the tiniest amount massaged into dry or itchy paws.

For me, that is the sign of a product earning its place: you understand what it does, you trust it, and you keep reaching for it.

Simple, considered skincare will always win over a crowded bathroom shelf.

Repair & Restore — for skin that needs support, not more noise.
