As I sit looking at my overgrown garden full of weeds, it got me thinking about the similarities to how our minds can sometimes feel like an overgrown garden too.

Tangled thoughts, difficult emotions, old beliefs and worries competing for space.

We might sometimes wish we could pull out the weeds in our head, but healing isn’t always about getting rid of every difficult thought or feeling. Sometimes it’s about understanding what’s growing, creating space, and gently nurturing what helps us thrive.

🌱 What would you like to make more room for in your life?

Therapy isn’t just for fixing what’s broken. It’s about understanding yourself, breaking old patterns, building healthier relationships, and navigating life with a little more clarity.

Because you don’t have to wait for a crisis to ask for support.

Monday Musings or for today, Monday Menopause Musings.

Did you know that for females, su***de rates are highest during midlife. Specifically peaking among women aged 45 - 54, often linked to hormonal changes.

Also around this age, women tend to have huge career changes opting for jobs that offer a slower paced life. They leave jobs and relationships that no longer serves them.

Divorce rates increase throughout these years too. And whilst not directly linked to menopause, you can't deny the facts and figures.

To put this in perspective, approximately 3 million women in the UK are experiencing menopause at any given time. That's a substantial portion of our population navigating not just the physical symptoms, but the emotional and mental challenges too.

These changes in women, whilst sometimes might be comical and slightly bonkers, can also be hugely dibilitating affecting their sleep and cognitive processing.

Don't underestimate the value of talking and sharing your experiences women.

This transition requires you to lean in to others and seek out support where necessary.

You're not on your own.

Counselling isn't always about becoming a better version of yourself. Sometimes it's about returning to the version of you who knew how to rest, play, feel, connect, and simply exist without over analysing everything.

So today's therapeutic advice;

Be More Dog

- Less overthinking
- More belly rubs
- More walks
- More naps
- More living in the moment
- Get excited about the little things
- Ask for what you want
- Set boundaries (might I suggest you avoid doing this with a growl or a bark. Through personal experience, it doesn't always have the desired effect)

Have you ever found yourself reacting more strongly than the situation seems to warrant?

Sometimes the parts of ourselves we try hardest to hide; our anger, fear, jealousy, need for approval, or vulnerability, don't disappear. They simply move into the shadows.

In psychology, this is often called the shadow self: the aspects of ourselves we've learned to reject because they felt unacceptable, unsafe, or shameful.

The goal isn't to eliminate your shadow.
It's to become curious about it.

When we meet these hidden parts with compassion instead of criticism, they often reveal unmet needs, old wounds, and opportunities for healing.

Counselling offers a safe, non judgemental space to gently explore these hidden aspects of yourself. As awareness grows, so does choice. Instead of being driven by unconscious patterns, you can begin responding from a place of authenticity and self understanding.

Your shadow isn't proof that you're broken.
It may simply be holding the parts of you that have been waiting to be seen.

Healing isn't about becoming someone else. It's about becoming more fully yourself.

Your shadow isn't your enemy, it's a part of your story waiting to be understood.

Progress, not perfection. 🌱

Healing isn't about getting everything right. It's about taking one small step at a time, even when it feels difficult.

Some days you'll move forward. Some days you'll simply make it through, and that counts too.

Be kind to yourself. Growth isn't linear, and perfection was never the goal. Every step, no matter how small, is part of your journey.

Progress over perfection. Always.

Healing isn't a race.

You don't have to rush your growth, force your recovery, or become a "better version" of yourself overnight.

But I get it. We want to feel good, and so we rush into trying to fix things as quickly as we can to avoid feeling the discomfort.

But real healing happens in the small moments. Setting a boundary, choosing rest, asking for help, or simply getting through a difficult day with a little more self compassion than yesterday.

Take your time.

Growth isn't measured by speed. It's measured by the courage to keep showing up, even when progress feels slow.

Trust your own pace. The person you're becoming doesn't need to be rushed.
