👟Heading out for a weekend walk? Your feet will thank you for choosing the right footwear. 👟
The Lancaster and Morecambe trails are calling but, before you lace up, a few words from us at Foot Forward Podiatry.
Prevent pressure sores:
Ill-fitting shoes are the number one cause of blisters and pressure sores. Make sure there's a thumb's width of space at the toe, and that your heel sits snugly without slipping. Wear the socks you'll actually walk in when trying shoes on, and break new footwear in gradually, a long ramble is not the time to debut fresh boots.
Keep fungal infections at bay:
Warm, damp feet are a paradise for fungus. Choose breathable materials, swap cotton socks for moisture-wicking ones, and always dry thoroughly between your toes afterwards. Never share footwear, and if your shoes get wet, let them dry fully before the next outing.
A quick pre-walk check:
Inspect for worn soles, rough seams, or pressure points. Trim toenails straight across, and if you spot any redness or hot spots mid-walk, stop and address them early.
Look after your feet, and they'll carry you further. 🌿
