If you’ve have found yourself questioning your own experience of assessments that have felt inconsistent, confusing, or rushed, you’re not alone. Many neurodivergent people come away from the process with unanswered questions. Not because their differences aren’t real, but because the system itself feels fragmented.

In a recent report by the Centre for Health and the Public Interest (CHPI), the rapid growth in outsourcing to private providers, variation in assessment models, and limited national standardisation or oversight is highlighted. When services expand quickly under pressure, experiences can vary. Inconsistency can leave people feeling uncertain about whether an assessment was thorough enough, and what it all means for them. Understanding the structural context can help reframe some of that confusion. The problem isn’t that you’re “not ADHD enough.” It’s that the system delivering assessments is under strain and unevenly regulated.

If you’re feeling unsure about your next step, I offer consultations for neurodivergent people focused on clarity and informed decision-making. Book an appointment today via the link in my bio.

You might recognise rejection sensitivity in yourself or in your child. A change in tone feels loaded. Being left out can trigger a response that feels intense. From the outside it might be perceived as “overreacting.” But from the inside it feels overwhelming and deeply personal.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is a term many neurodivergent people use to describe their response to perceived rejection or criticism. It’s often talked about in relation to ADHD, but other neurodivergent people may recognise it too. When someone has experienced repeated misunderstanding, correction, or social uncertainty, their nervous system is really clever and becomes a super sensitive threat detector.

Whether you’re trying to understand this in yourself or support a child who feels things intensely, clarity can make a real difference. If you’d like support making sense of these patterns you can book an appointment via the link in my bio.

If you feel like rewards charts just don’t work, I’m here to let you know that it’s not because you’re getting it wrong. It’s not that you need to try a different type of reward or a different system. Sometimes incentivising or externalising gratification just doesn’t work.

Not all behaviour is driven by motivation (or a lack of). Some behaviour’s are driven by anxiety, overwhelm, or skill gaps. In those moments, rewards won’t reach the part of the brain that’s struggling. What’s going to help your child (and you) feel less frustrated in the long run is understanding what’s underneath the behaviour and building the skills that support change.

If you feel stuck trying different approaches and nothing seems to work, I offer consultations to help you understand what might be going on and what could help. Book your appointment today via the link in my bio.

If you’re feeling stuck with aspects of parenting, you’re not alone! Sometimes advice from parents WhatsApp groups or parenting books just doesn’t cut it. You might be at the point where you’re thinking, “I just need someone to help me think this through properly.” Time to sit down, look at the full picture, and understand what might be going on for YOUR child.

That’s exactly what I offer in my Parent Power Hours. Before we meet, you complete some background forms so I can understand the context. Then we spend a full hour talking in depth about your concerns, patterns you’re noticing, school, behaviour, anxiety. Whatever feels biggest and trickier. We think together about possible explanations and practical next steps. Afterwards, you’ll get a detailed email from me where I outline what we discussed, including tailored recommendations, signposting, resources, or whether further support might be helpful.

Parents often tell me they leave feeling clearer, more confident, and less guilty about what to do next. If you’re feeling stuck or unsure where to start, you can book a Parent Power Hour via the link in my bio.

💭 It’s been a tough week in the world of SEND. We knew this was coming. We’d seen the leaked information. And on Monday we were presented with a White Paper “Every Child Achieving and Thriving”. I know like me, if you’re supporting people in the world of SEND, or if you’re the parent of a child with SEND, you didn’t feel hugely hopeful about what was about to come. We see day after day after day how the education system doesn’t just fail children, but it harms them. This week I’ve been reading the paper in between writing reports for EHCP tribunals for children who haven’t been able to access education for years. I’ve been pondering the pros and cons while speaking with parents who feel defeated. So here are my initial thoughts. No magical answers. Just ponderings from my notes. More to come from me on this. I’d love to know your thoughts. And if you’re a parent navigating this, please know I’m right here, on your side! 💖

Your child has had an ADHD assessment or has one coming up. You’ve heard of the QB Test and wondered what it actually is. Or you’ve got your child’s report back and wonder why the QB test scores are so high when they didn’t get signed. The QB Test cannot give a clear answer about disnfosis on its own.

The QB Test is a computer-based task that measures attention, activity levels and impulsivity. It provides information, and can be one part of an assessment. But it doesn’t diagnose ADHD on its own. A good assessment is about understanding patterns over time, not relying on a single test.

If you’re trying to make sense of assessment options, or you’re not sure what different parts of the process actually tell us, I offer consultations and full ADHD assessments to help bring clarity and direction. Book an appointment today via the link in my bio.

You might wonder whether your child’s behaviour is typical for their age, whether you’re expecting too much, or whether you’re not setting enough boundaries. Many parents feel caught between being told to be firmer and being told to be gentler, without clear guidance on what young children are actually capable of developmentally.

In early childhood, behaviour is closely linked to skill development. Children are learning how to wait, manage frustration, cope with change, and regulate big emotions. Boundaries help create safety and predictability. Building skills helps children grow into those expectations. When we understand what is age-appropriate, it becomes easier to respond with both structure and support.

If you’d like support understanding your child’s behaviour, what’s developmentally typical, and how to strengthen emotional and behavioural skills, I offer parent consultations focused on practical, psychologically informed guidance. Book your appointment via the link in my bio today!

Getting support for your child in school just feels more and more impossible, right? Waits are longer than ever, thresholds feel higher, and many families are left trying to make sense of what is happening behind the scenes (when it feels like the SEND world speaks its own language!)

The Institute for Fiscal Studies has published a report which highlights just how much SEND spending has increased over the past decade, and how this is reshaping the education system as a whole. This kind of pressure doesn’t stay at a policy level. Schools are stretched, local authorities are trying to balance growing demand with limited budgets, and families are having to push harder than ever to have their children’s needs recognised. Understanding the wider context can sometimes help explain why support can feel inconsistent, slow, or difficult to access, even when everyone is trying.

If you’re trying to navigate assessments, school support, or EHCP processes and aren’t sure what your next step should be, I offer parent consultations to help you think things through and plan from a place of clarity. You can book a free initial call via the link in bio.
