This morning I was sitting with my cup of tea and watching the birds at the feeder, enjoying a little bit of peace before the day starts, and I found myself thinking about this June challenge.
It's funny because when we decide we want to make a change, we often think the hard part is starting.
But starting is usually the easy bit.
It's easy to keep a promise to yourself when you feel motivated. It's much harder on a random Wednesday when you're tired, busy, and nobody would know if you didn't do it.
That's where I think the real challenge is.
Not in doing something once.
In doing it again.
And then again.
Long after the excitement has worn off.
I've realised recently that every time I keep one of those small promises to myself, I'm building evidence that I can trust my own word.
And every time I don't, I'm strengthening the habit of letting myself off the hook.
We'd never build a friendship that way. If someone repeatedly let us down, eventually we'd stop trusting them. Yet so many of us do exactly that to ourselves without even noticing.
That's why this challenge isn't really about getting up earlier for me.
It's about becoming someone who does what she says she's going to do.
So today, don't worry about the rest of the month.
Just focus on today.
What's one promise you can keep to yourself before your head hits the pillow tonight? 🌿🤍
