THE GREAT FORGETTING

Technology tends towards a movement away from a capacity to be able to sense the subtle flow of information and wisdom from ourselves and the earth.

Every innovation in technology has the potential to dull our experience of life. Everything that is done ‘for us’ by a technology, allows for another forgetting. Sand trickling through the fingers.

Not that technology is bad, it’s just so, so powerful.

And we can only use it wisely if we keep remembering who we really are and where we really came from.

Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy is an antidote to the great forgetting. We work specifically to connect and to remember. We hold a quiet space for the subtle streams of experience that carries the information that lights up our parched and disavowed souls.

I know, it all sounds rather dramatic – it is.

If you feel like you would like some help to reconnect and come back to yourself, please get in touch.

IF YOUR LIFE FEELS LIKE A TORNADO

If you’re constantly out on the periphery of your own life and everything is too tight and too fast – that probably doesn’t feel so good.

You have another way of being that maybe you’ve forgotten or never really knew.

In the centre of you there’s stillness and space, somewhere to breathe and recalibrate.

Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy helps you find that place.

If this strikes a chord, please get in touch.

WARMING THE COCKLES OF WELCOME

When I look in the mirror, can I welcome myself?
Is my heart big enough to offer the same hospitality to everyone, regardless.

It’s strange how when we fall into loving other people, we somehow clearly see the inherent beauty within. We know that their shadows, in a way, are just a stories waiting to be retold. And so we offer ourselves to be present and kind, ready to hold and tend.

If I can find courage, then I may be able to warm my own cockles enough to extend the same reception to myself.

And what a relief that would be – to hold yourself with unconditional positive regard and speak out loud the stories that you thought couldn’t and shouldn’t heard.

And then lay them to rest.

It’s my role as a craniosacral therapist, to hold the door open and make the introduction.

If this post rings a bell, please get in touch.

THE BROKEN HEART IS A DOMINO -The trauma of the transgressor

Whenever there is an act of transgression, whether conscious or unconscious – there is a movement for one, to impose, subtract or subdue in relation to another. There is an obvious wounding to the victim, but less obvious, is the self inflicted copy-paste, into the perpetrator.

In craniosacral therapy, people often come to address the downstream effects of some kind of past trauma. It’s important to address individual circumstances of course, but all of our personal trauma histories, exist within a larger context of emotional wounding that has been passed down through generations and across societies and time.

So my own experience being parented a father with a suppressed capacity to communicate emotion and connection, should be seen in the context of him being raised by a man who had survived the horrors of the Somme and returned home I imagine, with little space for joy and love.

This is a familiar story. A man returning from war never again to ‘speak of it’. So the heart was closed, and the broken heart of the father closes the heart of the son.

And how on earth did my poor grandfather find himself on a battlefield in the middle of an insane world war? Because the effect of collective wounding of whole societies meant that the one, failed to see the humanity in the other.

And so the ‘heart habit’ of closing and then breaking, passes down through the generations and across communities. The ‘not speaking’ becomes a cultural trap that binds grief to the individual.

The culture of individualism is likewise a self-perpetuating, product and cause of harm. We are schooled to keep our pain and grief to ourselves. We don’t want to feel it and we don’t want to show it. We have somehow attached shame to wounding, so we keep ourselves to ourselves.

But this is not how we heal. Our biology and psychology dictates that we need other people to process. We need a social vessel to contain and hold us with love, whilst we feel the truth of what we need to feel and be witnessed. This is how we begin the great unbinding – of ourselves and the world.

And this is part of the work of cranioscaral therapy. We first learn to get quiet and listen and then we go about building a therapeutic relationship that can facilitate the witnessing and holding that we need. But also to help build a baseline resilience to do this demanding work.

And this is difficult stuff. At the beginning of my own journey it felt impossible really – I would close my eyes, go inside, and feel nothing at all. But with practice and patience this work melts the frozen and grief stricken parts of us, and the river of our lives can flow again to it’s hearts content.

DISORDERS OF DISEMBODIMENT

Disembodiment is a strange idea in some ways because of course we all have a body. Sometimes though, we can lose touch with parts of ourselves.

We can become estranged from what the gut wants us to know, or give up listening to the compass of the heart.

We can also become separated from psychological parts of ourselves; maybe the parts that needed to be loved but weren’t or childish parts we are ashamed of.

Disembodiment can be viewed as inflammatory. In that it can invoke a particular kind of separation experience that emphasises ‘otherness’ or ‘not part of me’.

And In certain contexts when the psychological system insists that parts of ourselves are not acceptable, it triggers a defensive response of inflammation. This particularly occurs when the ‘other’ cannot be integrated into the human system.

In the same way that an actual foreign body, such as an unfamiliar virus, bacteria, or even a splinter will provoke a defence cascade from the immune system, so too will a body part or personality part that the psycho-immune system has defined as ‘not me’ or dangerous.

This way of organising our internal world paves the way for a proclivity to the mental health and autoimmune disorders which underpin so much modern chronic disease.

The concept of disembodiment as a phenomenon that precludes an inflammatory response can be extended to the social and ecological realms too. Any situation that fosters a separation and dis-integration from the conceptual whole can instigate a defence response, as is clear by the global symptoms of warming and war.

As always, the more healthy whole integrated people we have, the less conflict is necessary. The effects of healing oneself are eco-systemic.

Because we are all connected, the embodiment and integration work we do personally, reverberates out into the human and not human world too, creating more capacity for re-connection for everyone.

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy specialises in connection and re-embodiment, please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

TOWARDS A MORE BEAUTIFUL FUTURE

Noticing that feeling of attraction towards someone and distant molecules drifting towards each other in a gravitational field is the same thing.

There is an energy field of potential – the cosmos wants to bring you together.

You and the molecules in question both envision some kind of meaningful, beautiful future together.

This is what we do in craniosacral therapy. We create a space to hold your past, your present and your future. We set an intention to be a courageous witness to it all, and then allow the cosmos to move us towards beauty.

On Beauty

Beauty is everywhere but we don’t always see it.

When I notice something beautiful emerging from the ordinary and everyday, it’s as though a portal opens up into a deeper and richer layer of experience, sacred even.

One way of describing beauty is a frequency of resonance between one thing and another which celebrates and recognises a common deep connection whilst honouring the uniqueness of each.

When i’m feeling open hearted and expansive, I see and feel beauty everywhere and I can literally myself ‘resonating’. Other times not so much.

Craniosacral therapy teaches us, among other things, the practice of resonance. The body is an incredible receiver and transmitter of energy and information, both within ourselves and between each other and the world.

The more open and resonant we are, more of us becomes available to the flow of life. And the easier it becomes to both receive and transmit the frequency of beauty.
