🍎🍯 Wishing everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah a happy and meaningful New Year! 🍯🍎

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time for reflection, renewal, and spending time with family and loved ones. It is often marked by shared meals and traditional foods, including apples dipped in honey to symbolise hopes for a sweet new year.

Celebrations and food traditions are an important part of wellbeing and connection. If you're celebrating, take time to enjoy your favourite foods, savour each bite, and appreciate the opportunity to gather with those who matter to you.

Healthy eating doesn't mean missing out on meaningful traditions. Balance, enjoyment and connection all have a place in a healthy lifestyle. πŸ’™

From all of us at Counterweight, we wish you and your loved ones a Shanah Tovah, a good and sweet year ahead. ✨

🌱 Zero Waste Week: Small Changes, Less Waste ♻️

This Zero Waste Week, we are thinking about how small changes in our everyday habits can help reduce the amount we throw away.

One simple way to think about it is the 5 Rs:

🚫 Refuse: say no to things you don't need, such as unnecessary packaging.
⬇️ Reduce: buy and use only what you need, and avoid food waste by planning meals.
πŸ”„ Reuse: choose reusable items where possible, such as water bottles and shakers.
♻️ Recycle: recycle packaging and materials wherever local facilities allow.
🌿 Rot: compost suitable food scraps and other organic waste.

When it comes to food, planning your meals, storing food properly, using leftovers creatively, and checking what you already have before shopping can all help reduce waste.

At Counterweight, we're always looking for ways to make healthier habits practical, affordable and sustainable, for both our health and the planet. πŸ’™πŸŒ

πŸ’¬ Which of the 5 Rs could you focus on this week?

❀️ Know Your Numbers Week ❀️

This week is a great reminder to check in with your health and know your numbers. Blood pressure is one of the key measurements of heart health, yet high blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms.

Taking time to have your blood pressure checked can help you understand your health and identify any changes early. You can also support your heart health through everyday habits such as:

πŸ§‚ Cutting back on salt: try herbs, spices, garlic and lemon to add flavour instead.
πŸ₯— Eating a balanced diet: include plenty of vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and other nutritious foods.
🚢 Keeping active: regular movement can support healthy blood pressure and heart health.
βš–οΈ Working towards a healthy weight: even modest weight loss can have health benefits.
🩺 Keeping up with routine health checks: knowing your numbers can help you take action when needed.

Small changes can make a big difference to your long-term health. πŸ’™

πŸ’¬ Do you know your blood pressure numbers? If it's been a while since you had it checked, why not make it a priority this week?

πŸͺ·πŸ’™ Wishing everyone celebrating Raksha Bandhan a happy and meaningful day!

Raksha Bandhan is a special Hindu festival celebrating the bond between siblings, traditionally marked by the tying of a *rakhi* and the exchange of gifts, food, and good wishes.

For many families, sharing food is an important part of the celebration. Whether you're enjoying traditional dishes, homemade treats, or a family meal, remember that healthier eating is about balance, not perfection. Take time to savour your favourite foods, enjoy the company of loved ones, and return to your usual healthier habits afterwards.

Celebrations are an important part of wellbeing too. πŸ’™

From all of us at Counterweight, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful Raksha Bandhan filled with connection, laughter, and wonderful memories. ✨

πŸŒ™ Wishing everyone observing Mawlid al-Nabi a peaceful and meaningful celebration. πŸ’™

Mawlid al-Nabi, the observance of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is marked by many Muslim communities through prayer, reflection, remembrance, and coming together with family and friends. Traditions and ways of observing the day vary between communities.

For many, sharing food and gathering together are an important part of the occasion. If you're celebrating with loved ones, enjoy the opportunity to connect and share in your traditions, while remembering that healthier eating is about balance rather than perfection.

From all of us at Counterweight, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful and meaningful Mawlid. πŸŒ™βœ¨

πŸ‚β˜€οΈ Long weekend ahead? Make a plan, but leave room for fun!

As summer starts to transition into autumn, long weekends can be a great opportunity to relax, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy a change of pace. A little preparation can help you stay connected to your healthier habits without feeling like you're missing out.

πŸ₯— Plan ahead: If you know you'll be eating out or attending a gathering, think about what balanced options might be available and bring something nutritious to share if appropriate.

πŸ’§ Stay hydrated: Keep water close by throughout the day, especially if you're spending time outdoors or being more active than usual.

🚢 Keep moving: Make the most of the extra time by going for a walk, exploring somewhere new, or getting active with friends and family.

🍰 Enjoy the occasion: You don't need to avoid your favourite foods. Enjoy them mindfully, savour them, and get back to your usual routine afterwards.

Remember, one long weekend won't undo your progress. It's what you do consistently over time that matters. πŸ’™

What are you looking forward to most about the long weekend? πŸ‚βœ¨
