WHAT ARE THE THREE MAIN TYPES OF DIABETES?

There are three types of diabetes:

Type 1 Diabetes — Wherein the pancreas produces very little to no insulin.

More often to occur in children, as a form of an autoimmune dysfunction.

Type 2 Diabetes — Which can be referred to as ‘insulin resistance’, in that the body does not react or metabolize insulin as effectively as it should.

Much more common than type 1 diabetes, with approximately 90% of those affected with diabetes. Occurring more with adults aged 40 and above- though in recent years, more and more younger individuals are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes — Occurring mostly in pregnant women, who may have developed high blood sugar during their pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes usually resolves after pregnancy, though it can increase the risk of the woman or her child to develop diabetes. It can also increase risk of developing complications during pregnancy, such as preeclampsia.

In discussing dietaries and healthy eating, sugar is a vital factor to take into consideration. Especially in relation to its high relevance to some serious health problems. Research studies have shown that a diet great in sugar has links to the greater risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, obesity and raising sugar levels that may lead to type 2 diabetes.

It is no argument that sugar can give our body a temporary boost of energy, when we direly need it. However, other than that sugar is essentially what is referred to as ‘empties calories’ with no other nutritional values.

There are three forms of sugar:
- Natural Sugars:
Founded in fruits, vegetables and milk based products.
- Added Sugars:
Which are found in the likes of fizzy drinks and biscuits etc.
- And as the product of digestion of complex carbohydrates:
In example, foods like pasta, bread etc.

Many of us are unaware of the amount of added sugar we feed our bodies, which can be quite harmful in the long run. So here are 6 small changes to your diet you can make, in order to cut back on your sugar consumptions:-

1. Reduce intake of sugary drinks, and cut down on the sugar you add to hot drinks.

2. Swap sweets for a healthier snack with whole fruits, nuts etc.

3. Switch to wholegrain options; wholemeal breads, brown rice etc.

4. Be wary of ‘low-fat diet’ foods.
As they may contain more sugar than you think!

5. Avoid having ready meals.

6. Consider balancing carbs by eating more protein.

No one can completely avoid sugar and neither should one do it. Also, not all sugars are bad for you.

The added sugars like table sugar (sucrose) and high-fructose corn syrup should be completely avoided.

Eating sugar in natural form is still fine as refined sugar is definitely bad for your overall health.

Here’s three ways to lose weight without completely giving up sugar!

1. Drink Wellfinitea : Gymnema Inodorum and Pandanus Palm. The gymneic acid (active ingredient) helps block the sugar receptors in your tongue, so reduces the cravings.

2. Have less sugar! Replacing half of your sugar with natural sweeteners such as Stevia or Erythritol could help the amount of refined sugar in your diet.

3. Have oats or fibrous foods before you have the sugary indulgence. This helps slow down the digestion of the sugar. Fiber helps regulate the body's use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check.
