Masking takes an unbelievable amount of energy. We get dressed up and smile to feel normal for an hour, but we pay for it in pain for days after.

Looking healthy and being healthy are two completely different things. Our outside appearance rarely matches the electrical storm happening in our nervous system. 🎭🔋

What you don’t see are the symptoms we carry quietly; the crashes, the guilt, the loneliness, the grief, the strength it takes just to show up with a smile and to keep persevering mentally and physically every single day.

Living with Fibro or ME/CFS means navigating a reality most people never witness, and still finding softness in the middle of it all.

I used to live daily with severe debilitating chronic pain. Now my biggest struggle is chronic fatigue and brain fog. But this ritual helped me then, and it helps me now.

On my worst flare-up days, even lifting my phone feels heavy.

So I don't. I just lie there.

And I do this one thing- no movement, no willpower.

I put one hand on my belly, one on my chest. And I breathe.

In for 4 seconds. Hold for 2. Out for 6.

That's it. That's the whole ritual.

It tells my nervous system: 'We're safe.' And somehow, my nervous system dial turns down just a little.
