I listened to a recent episode of podcast where .jardiniere and Gerald Knaus shared powerful insights on immigration and it’s worth every minute of your time.
Here are some of the key points that stood out for me;
🔹 The UK’s fertility rate is falling. Our population is ageing fast.
If we want future generations to fund pensions, care for our elderl and fill the workforce, immigration might be a good opportunity.
🔹 Spain’s inclusive immigration policies might have promise.
They’ve shifted focus from control to integration and by helping people contribute once they arrive. Additinally, they focus on creating education opportunities for migrants in areas where their economy needs the boost most.
🔹 The UK’s current system often shoots itself in the foot.
If we don’t orient our immigration system towards inclusion and belonging, we give it every chance to create division within our communities and fail.
🔹 The danger isn’t immigration itself, it’s the story being told about it.
The failure of centrist politicians to tell a more balanced story leaves space for fear and misinformation to dominate. Myths and lies have the highest share of voice in the media.
🔹 And leaving the European Convention on Human Rights?
Zoe warns it could be catastrophic.
The UK helped build that framework after WWII to protect freedom, not restrict it.
My goal here isn’t to change anyone’s mind.
It’s simply to point out a different , one rooted in facts, humanity and .
