Happy to share that one of our courses with The University of Leeds is now available on Coursera. The course was repurposed for Coursera to target under-represented young people in the technical industries and made available through a free scholarship scheme for those learners. The future of online education is very bright and we're thrilled to be a part of it!

Brene Brown’s work reminds us that life is not for the faint hearted but that our courage makes it all the more rewarding and beautiful. Her research also informs us that to truly belong in any situation, community or relationship, we must be able and willing to be fully seen. If we abandon ourselves to be accepted, we don’t truly belong.

Where are you hiding? Why are you hiding? And how can you let yourself be more seen?

A key element of The Great Communicator Course is the lesson on Nonviolent Communication created by Marshall Rosenberg. Marshall’s teachings are revolutionary and transformative and have the power to help you create a more peaceful relationship with yourself, others and within the world. NVC training should truly be integrated into every community, home and school. The NVC approach to having challenging conversations, fostering greater empathy and honesty is through four key components: observations, feelings, needs and requests. You will learn more from a Nonviolent Communication certified trainer in The Great Communicator Course on how to apply these four illuminating components. We know that the NVC methodology will radically enhance your self-awareness and sense of peace and help you cultivate more loving and harmonious relationships based in mutual respect.

“NVC is about connecting with ourselves and others from the heart. It’s about seeing the humanity in all of us. It’s about recognizing our commonalities and differences and finding ways to make life wonderful for all of us”

Rumi, the poet and Sufi mystic, wrote this in the 13th century and it still rings true today. These three gates beautifully highlight our universal and eternal connection to the collective human experience. We are never alone; in truth, there are many people who have a shared lived experience to our own, the key is to share and be reminded.

These three gates are immensely helpful. 'Is it true' reminds us that feelings are not facts. 'Is it necessary' reminds us to express what is of value and when we do speak, 'Is it kind' reminds us to lead with empathy for people are predominantly trying the best they can with what they have.

Ain't that the truth!

When we know ourselves, we are less likely to project on to others and we have greater access to compassion. The journey of a lifetime is getting to know ourselves more and more intimately and loving who we are and who we become. Through our self-awareness and self-acceptance, we can then begin to foster deeper and more loving relationships with others and the world.

What's your process for self discovery? And how do you embrace the parts of yourself that you've been inclined to reject?

Yoko Ono is a rebel and maverick who has lived life true to herself. When you live authentically, you attract and are attracted to the things that are in true alignment. For many people this isn’t easy and that is why we are here to help you at the TGC audio course, especially in module 1 where we focus on intrapersonal communication. We explore how we can show up and live honestly and move beyond the fear and blocks that are holding us back.

Jon Kabat-Zinn is a pioneer in bringing mindfulness and meditation into a medical and clinical setting. He knew long before the expansive data supported it, that the body/brain relationship could be supported through mindfulness to reduce pain, stress and illness. His development and implementation of his Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction(MBSR) programme has been extraordinary and is now used around the world.

Being quiet and listening is an accessible, instant and free way to practice self love and is also the greatest gateway to creativity, acceptance and empathy. We can become so cluttered with the noise of modern living that sitting in silence is an act of radical love and radical freedom.

Dance as a metaphor for life.

Are the patterns you repeat in alignment with your authentic identity? Do these patterns serve you and if yes, how? Intrapersonal communication is the essential first step in our ability to live a full life. As Socrates famously said, "An unexamined life is not worth living." It could certainly be an easier life, but perhaps not as rich and truthful.

In Module 1 of TGC audio course we explore the body and suggest new ways we can develop a strong relationship with ourselves. Choreographer, Alexander Whitley explains how dance promotes intrapersonal communication and teaches us about our inner experience. The link is in our bio to sign up for The Great Communicator audio course, a chance to learn on the go and improve your relationships in 2023.

Maya Angelou was a woman and leader who knew the power of language and its ability to instigate change. She believed that language was so powerful it could get into your hair, the fabric of your furniture and permeate your soul, so she was very intentional with the words she chose and the words of others that she surrounded herself with. Oprah recalled in an interview that Maya once kicked a person out of her home for using derogatory language because she didn't want that energy from the language present in her house.

Maya also had one of the greatest grasps of the English language and used its full breadth, depth and beauty to write some of the best poems and literature that were often about her life and the universality of womanhood.

Are you specific, intentional and creative with the language you use?

Maya Angelou is an eternal beacon of light and one of the many multifaceted female pioneers that we honour today and always!

We also acknowledge that the majority of women on planet earth at this moment in time still do not have equal opportunity, equal education, equal rights and equal pay let alone true autonomy in the societies and countries in which they live. May each woman with sovereignty honour her freedom today by ensuring that we work towards freedom for all!

Happy International Women's Day!
