Things I wish more women knew about gut health -

• Women are actually around twice as likely to experience gut issues like IBS, bloating, constipation and digestive discomfort compared to men although so many are still dismissed as ‘normal’
• Your gut can influence hormones, mood, energy, skin, inflammation, cravings and how you feel day to day. Stress, lack of sleep, under-eating and restrictive habits can have a bigger impact on gut health than you think.
• Supporting your gut usually isn’t about extreme restrictions or cutting things out but more more often is about consistently fuelling your body in the right way through proper nourishment, fibre, hydration, sleep and stress management.
• Stress management is a huge one for some people and nervous system regulation can take awhile to work on but consistency matters and even small things can really help.

If you want to get to work with me with root-cause principles to figure out what your body’s trying to signal to you - DM saying Support and I will be happy to help you.

If you’ve had ongoing digestive symptoms, fatigue, bloating, skin flare-ups, or unexplained health changes after travel, food poisoning, or recurring gut issues; this is for you. Testing can sometimes provide useful answers.

Not every symptom is caused by parasites or pathogens, but organisms like an imbalance of the wrong kind of bacteria, yeast overgrowth, and parasites and pathogens can affect the gut, immune system, nutrient absorption, inflammation levels, and overall wellbeing in some people.

The challenge is that symptoms are often nonspecific:
• bloating
• diarrhea or constipation
• abdominal pain
• food sensitivities
• fatigue
• brain fog
• skin issues

These can overlap with IBS, stress, intolerances, microbiome imbalance, or post-infectious gut dysfunction.

That’s why proper testing matters instead of guessing.

Some organisms can be present without causing problems, while others may contribute to chronic symptoms depending on the person, their immune system, gut health, and overall context.

Being informed by evidence-based answers when symptoms persist can give some relief and insight and help practitioners tailor a support plan.

A lot of the time it’s not just one thing going on and other systems need to be supported. This requires a bit of patience and some deeper knowledge.

As a nutritionist, I’ve learned that eating well isn’t about being perfect all the time. It’s l about taking care of yourself in a way that actually feels sustainable and enjoying all kinds of foods that you feel like.

Most days, I choose foods that make me feel good: fresh, colorful, nourishing meals that give me energy and help me feel my best. Sometimes, I’ll go for a big brunch or enjoy a burger whilst out a restaurant for lunch. However, when you nourish your body properly you want less of the really indulgent foods because you notice how they make you feel or you just generally don’t fancy them.

Health isn’t ruined by one meal, it’s built by the little choices we make over time.

Life is too short to feel guilty about food all the time.

POV: You eat a colourful whole food diet most of the time 🍇🥬🍠 🍅 🥦

Your gut microbiome is flourishing, your hormones feel supported, cravings calm down, digestion improves, and you actually feel good in your body.

The plant compound called phytonutrients exhibit some amazing effects on the body: they act like antioxidants, they feed your gut bacteria and they help lower inflammation. The more variety of colours the better because they all have unique benefits! 🌈

This may seem “healthy” but you’re not seeing the results you want. Eating incomplete meals, small salads, skipping meals and still struggling with imbalanced hormones and symptoms? Struggling with weight loss?

Many people undernourish, unknowingly building meals that leave them under-fuelled and on a blood sugar rollercoaster.

When meals are too low in protein, fibre or overall nourishment, you’re more likely to experience rapid rises and crashes in blood sugar. This can affect energy, mood, cravings and hunger levels.

Over time, consistently under-fuelling the body may also reduce intake of key nutrients involved in hormone health and stress resilience. If you’re suffering with chronic conditions such as endometriosis as well, your body needs even more supportive foods to help with the inflammation that is happening in this condition.

Health isn’t about eating less all the time and calorie counting. It’s about giving all the systems in your body the tools it needs to do its job properly.

Save this for a helpful reminder 💜

😫 Feeling sluggish mid morning or afternoon and reaching for constant snacks for energy? Sometimes you’re just thirsty.

Quite a lot of the time we’re just dehydrated. Especially if you’ve been drinking caffeinated drinks half the day.

Water is involved in almost every process in your body and slight dehydration can even affect how you feel.

Energy & focus: Your blood is made mostly of water. When you’re dehydrated, blood volume drops slightly, meaning your heart works harder to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your brain and muscles. Hello fatigue, brain fog, and lower energy.

Digestion & gut health: water helps with digestion and helps move food through your digestive system. It keeps things flowing smoothly and helps prevent bloating and constipation. The more fibre you eat, the more water you’ll need.

Fullness & hunger cues: Your brain can sometimes confuse thirst with hunger because the signals come from similar areas. So when you feel “hungry,” you might actually just need fluids. Drinking enough in between meals can really help this.

Body regulation: Water helps control your temperature (sweating) and supports nutrient transport, so everything runs efficiently.

💦 Try this: next time you feel snacky, have a glass of water first and wait 10–15 minutes, you might realise you were just thirsty!

Feeling tired!? But think this is normal?

A lot of people I speak to complain about tiredness and put it down to age, being busy, being hormonal, being a parent but it isn’t a normal state to be in.

Now of course, if sleep and diet are not up to scratch then this could be part of the picture but if you’re eating really well and getting good sleep that is a sign of imbalance somewhere.

Using functions medicine principles and root cause analysis not just symptoms alone, nutritional therapists can see which system may be burdened and need more support.

This could be something as simple as not enough calories or B vitamins but also be sluggish digestion and gall bladder, high toxic load, high stress, hormone imbalance. The list is endless.

It’s so interesting discovering imbalances and they’re usually not wha you expect.

If you want to gain your energy back, drop me a DM to find out more.

Feeling tired and just ok is not how it’s meant to be.

One simple habit for health.

Start with a consistent sleep routine first.

It works wonders! From someone who used to think I could survive on late nights, no sleep schedule and a disrupted circadian rhythm.

Getting this one thing right, not perfect but good will have amazing effects on the rest of your health.

If you’re struggling with sleep/ disrupted sleep this will definitely help. Start getting in to a routine. Change a few things this week to help.

One of my favourite tips is just getting morning sunlight in to your eyes upon waking, this can help you drift off to sleep far more easily later ⏰ as it sets your circadian rhythm.
