Meet Anne-Marie - she's Capable Care's registered manager meaning she's responsible for our business and it values. She has 30 years experience in hospitals, care homes and community care. She has a passion for helping people get the best out of life.

Prior to working with Capable Care she was an Operations Manager in the NHS working at Great Ormond Street Hospital, St Georges and University College London Hospitals. This means she's great at helping people navigate between hospitals and home and always knows who can provide extra assistance to our clients.

Her job is to make sure that everything is running smoothly and we are compliant with all regulations. We were delighted when a client said the words below when they were talking to our independent inspector!

One of the best things about having care at home is that you could keep hold of animals and pets that provide companionship, comfort and a routine.

Did you know for some of our clients we help take their dog out for a walk or feed the cat?

Animals can bring joy, companionship and comfort. Pets can also provide routine, purpose and reassurance, especially when you’re feeling low. 🐾

But did you know they can also support people living with dementia? Today, on International Cat Day, we're sharing six ways animals can help someone with dementia. 💙

Has a pet supported you or a loved one? Let us know in the comments. 👇

The best ideas don't always come from a training plan... sometimes they come from listening🦻

A couple of weeks ago, one of our clients told us that being fed during a care visit hadn't been a great experience. We could have simply acknowledged the feedback. Instead, we acted on it.

At our very next Team Tuesday the day after, we scrapped the planned agenda and delivered a practical session on feeding and dysphagia. We explored why people develop swallowing difficulties, how to recognise the signs, and how to support people safely. Most importantly, our team took turns feeding one another to experience what it feels like to lose control of something as personal as eating.

We were also delighted to involve our work experience student, K, who spent the week with us. K helped shop for the session, prepare the food and joined the discussion, seeing first-hand how listening to feedback can lead to better care.

At Capable Care, we believe feedback is a gift. Every comment is an opportunity to learn, reflect and improve. It's how we build a culture where people feel listened to, our team keeps growing, and our clients receive the best care we can provide. This week's training reinforced that mealtimes are about far more than nutrition—they're about dignity, independence, recognising swallowing difficulties and supporting people safely.

We firmly that believe that if you want to deliver really great care...
🩷 It's about dignity.
🩷 It's about communication.
🩷 It's about understanding what the experience feels like for the person receiving care.

That's the Capable Care difference.

🩷 If you're looking for a care provider that listens, learns and continually strives to improve, we'd love to hear from you.

Have you thought about how aging will look for you? 😄

One of the biggest challenges for friends and families is trying to organise care for someone who has said they don't really want care. This has usually been a few years before and there's definitely a gap between trying to meet someone's current needs whilst respecting an earlier plan or version of themselves where care was a distant future idea.

We're experienced at making care appealing. We work hard at building relationships and making sure people enjoy the care they have as much as possible.

If you'd like a chat - please get in touch. We're always happy to have a chat and talk through a range of options that exist.

🌞 Team Tuesday at Capable Care 🌞

It was a hot one this week, so Team Tuesday involved plenty of ice-cold water, a fruit platter, ice creams and a little treat from the office – insulated water bottles for everyone to take away. 🍉🍦💙

As well as catching up with the team, we used the session to review our clients' care plans. Although we have a regular review process in place, our carers are the people who are there day in, day out, so they're often the first to spot when something isn't working, when a task has become unnecessary, or when there's something new we should be doing.

These conversations are always really valuable. Our carers build fantastic relationships with their clients and often know far more about what's happening in their day-to-day lives than we do in the office. They also come up with some brilliant ideas that help us keep improving the service we provide.

Not every suggestion is something we can put in place, but it's important that people understand the reasons why. Team Tuesday gives us the chance to share ideas, learn from each other, challenge ourselves and make sure everyone's voice is heard.

At Capable Care, learning and continuous improvement are part of everyday life. The best care happens when office staff and carers work as one team, and creating a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up, sharing ideas and learning together is something we're really proud of.

☀️ **Hot Weather in Beckenham – Please Check In On Older Friends, Family & Neighbours** ☀️

Hot weather can be particularly challenging for older people and those living with dementia, who may be less likely to recognise the signs of dehydration or remember to drink regularly.

💧 **A few simple ways to stay cool:**

• Offer drinks little and often – remember, **all fluid is good fluid!** Water, squash, tea, smoothies, soup and ice lollies all count!
• Keep curtains closed during the hottest part of the day.
• Use fans and seek out shady, cooler spaces.
• Wear loose, lightweight clothing.
• Use a cool flannel on the face, neck and wrists.
• Wash hands, feet and lower arms in cool water, or if someone isn't very mobile, use a washing up bowl filled with cool water for a gentle paddling experience.
• Prompt regular drinks rather than waiting until someone feels thirsty.

🏢 Need a cool place to escape the heat? Air-conditioned cafés and supermarkets, including Café Nero, Pret and larger local stores, can provide welcome relief if someone is mobile. Our neighbours at offer holiday advice in a cool space if you are looking to plan an escape!

⚠️ Look out for confusion, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness or dark urine – these can be signs of dehydration or heat exhaustion.

Most importantly, check in on anyone who may be struggling. A quick call, visit or cuppa can make all the difference.

❤️ At Capable Care, we're helping our clients stay cool, comfortable and hydrated throughout the hot weather.

Stay safe, Beckenham!

🐢💙 A community business supporting our community

This week I spent an evening at Christ Church Beckenham Cubs with Fred the tortoise, helping young people learn about animal care, responsibility and the importance of looking after others.

It struck me that whether we're supporting young people through Scouting or supporting older people through Capable Care, the values are remarkably similar – kindness, patience, respect and helping people to live their best lives.

At Capable Care, we're proud to be a truly local business. We don't just work in the community; we live here too. Our team are your neighbours, fellow volunteers, school parents, Scout leaders and community members. We care about Beckenham and the surrounding area because it's our home.

From Cubs to care visits, community events to supporting families at difficult times, we believe strong communities are built when people look out for one another.

And yes, Fred was definitely the star of the evening! 🐢⭐

South London. Proper football. Proper community. ❤️💙

We’re firmly behind Crystal Palace Football Club tonight - you can see the youngest team member has been earning their fan credentials with Oli Glasner! ⚽🦅

At Capable Care, being local matters to us. We’re not a national chain or a faceless call centre — we’re part of the Bromley & Beckenham community, supporting local people and cheering on local successes alongside everyone else.

Whether it’s helping someone stay independent at home, popping in for a welfare visit, supporting with meals and medication, or simply bringing a bit of company and conversation — community is at the heart of what we do. ❤️

So come on Palace… let’s make South London proud tonight! 🙌

Who are you backing and where are you watching from tonight?
