In Classical Pilates, progress isn’t about doing a completely different workout every week. We return to the Pilates repertoire, building on each exercise as your strength, control, mobility and understanding develop.

The same is true in our Tower Pilates classes. An exercise can be supported, adapted or progressed for the individual body, meaning two people can practise the same movement at completely different layers.

Repetition is part of the method. The stronger and more connected you become, the more there is to discover within the work. That’s how we practise here at Sona, building the foundations, then layering from there.

The Classical Reformer:
• 4 metal springs. All the same strength.
• 2 leather straps.
• A pair of wooden handles.
• A padded moving carriage.
• One footbar.

The springs are an integral part of the work. Sometimes they assist. Sometimes they resist. Sometimes they do bot, asking your body to find strength, control and connection throughout the movement.

The Classical Reformer might look a little different to the Reformers you’ve seen before and it feels different to move on too. No colour coded springs. No added extras. Just the apparatus, the classical repertoire and your body working together.

The Apparatus Edit: The Foot Corrector. 📃

Next in our series, we’re looking at one of the smaller pieces of classical apparatus, but one that has an important job.

Designed by Joseph Pilates, the Foot Corrector uses spring resistance to build strength, mobility and awareness through the feet and ankles, while helping us understand alignment and how you distribute your weight.

Because in Pilates, even the smallest details matter and strong foundations really do start from the ground up.

Have you used the Foot Corrector before?

Private sessions aren’t just for beginners. They’re for anyone who could benefit from a practice shaped entirely around them.

A 1:1 could be right for you if you’re:
• New to Pilates and want to build confidence
• Working towards specific strength, mobility or technique goals
• Returning from injury
• Pregnant or postnatal
• Looking to deepen your classical Pilates practice
• Already attending classes but want more personalised guidance

Private sessions can become your main practice or work alongside Tower and Studio Classes, giving you focused time to understand your body, refine your movement and progress through the repertoire.

Before we begin moving, I'm already observing. How you're standing. How you're walking into the room. Whether you've had a long day at your desk, you're feeling full of energy, recovering from an injury or simply moving a little differently than usual.

Every class follows the principles of the classical method, but the way I teach is always shaped by the people in front of me. Exercises can be layered, adapted and progressed so everyone feels appropriately challenged while moving safely and with confidence.

And from you, please keep me updated on how you're feeling. Whether you're managing an injury, experiencing any aches or pains, or something simply doesn't feel quite right, the more I know, the better I can support your practice and help you move safely.
