💙 Wishing Alex the very best of luck at the TCS London Marathon Marathon 💙
This Sunday, Alex Robertson will be taking on the London Marathon in support of Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK - and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Alex’s story is a powerful one. In 2008, his dad was diagnosed with throat cancer, a life-changing moment for their family. After recovering, his dad went on to run the London Marathon in aid of Oracle.
Now, Alex is following in his footsteps.
By taking on this incredible challenge, Alex is helping raise awareness of head and neck cancer and supporting vital research, early diagnosis and care for patients and families.
If you’d like to support Alex, you can donate here:

Every contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
Thank you, Alex - we’re so proud to have you running for us. Good luck on Sunday - we’ll be cheering you on all the way 🏃‍♂️🙌

📩 Year 8 parents and carers – look out for an important letter from your child’s school.

Schools are sending out information about the HPV vaccine, which is offered to children aged 12–13 as part of the NHS vaccination programme.

HPV is a very common virus that can lead to certain cancers later in life, including cervical, mouth and throat cancers.

The good news:
✔ The vaccine is safe and highly effective
✔ It offers up to 87% protection against HPV-related cancers
✔ It’s given as a single dose at school

We’d really encourage you to:
👉 Read the information carefully
👉 Ask questions if you need to
👉 Consider completing the consent form

Protecting children now can help prevent cancer later in life 💙

We’re delighted to support My Silver Linings: A Memoir to Head and Neck Cancer and Late Effects with Friends by Karen Liesching-Schroder.

Karen shares her personal experience of diagnosis, treatment and life after head and neck cancer, including the long-term side effects many patients face and the challenges of navigating work, healthcare and support systems.

What makes this book so special is that it brings together many voices:
✨ Karen’s own honest and inspiring story
✨ Six other patient experiences
✨ Contributions from healthcare professionals
✨ A practical guide to symptoms, treatments and terminology for patients and families

Karen has been an Oracle Voice member from the very beginning, helping raise awareness of head and neck cancer and advocating for better support for patients.

Head and neck cancer is one of the fastest rising cancers in the UK, yet awareness is still low and many people feel isolated during and after treatment. Books like Karen’s help people understand what patients really go through and remind others that they are not alone.

A huge congratulations to Karen for creating such a thoughtful and inspiring resource for the head and neck cancer community!

🎯🎯🎯 A huge thank you to everyone who took part in a fantastic darts tournament and raffle at Bickley & Widmore Social Club, organised by members Peter and Rachel.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, an amazing £439 was raised!

Funds raised will help support our work to improve awareness, fund research and provide support for people affected by head and neck cancer.

We’re incredibly grateful to Peter and Rachel for organising the event, to Bickley & Widmore Social Club for hosting and to everyone who played, donated and supported.

Thank you for making such a difference 💙

Today marks HPV Awareness Day.

Head and Neck Cancers are rising at over 30% a decade and largely driven by the rise in the Human Papilloma virus (HPV). HPV is very common and spreads easily - around 7 in 10 people will be exposed at some point, often without knowing it.

The HPV vaccine is a powerful tool to help prevent head and neck cancer and offered routinely to all year 8 students in England and Wales (as well as being available through a catch-up programme available at GP surgeries). If you are aged under 25 and haven't received the HPV vaccine, please contact your healthcare practitioner for further information. Or, if you are a parent of a 12 or 13 year old, please do consider consenting to your child receiving the vaccine this academic year.

By raising awareness of HPV - with your help - we can save lives.
