Autoimmune diseases can be difficult to diagnose, which makes the diagnosis process all the more frustrating. Sometimes symptoms overlap, mimic other conditions, or come and go. It’s why so many people spend years searching for answers before finally getting a diagnosis.

Here are 5 of the toughest ones to identify:

🔸Lupus (SLE): It can look like so many other things - joint pain, fatigue, rashes, organ issues - and that’s just to name a few. Diagnosis often takes a mix of tests like ANA and anti–double-stranded DNA.

🔸Sjögren’s Syndrome: Constant dry eyes or mouth? It might be more than dehydration. It’s often mistaken for other conditions, and a lip biopsy or specific antibody tests (SSA/Ro and SSB/La) can help confirm it.

🔸 Multiple Sclerosis (MS): From vision problems to muscle weakness and coordination issues, no two cases are the same. MRIs and spinal fluid tests help, but diagnosis can still be a long road.

🔸 Vasculitis: This one’s about inflamed blood vessels that can affect different organs. It often takes imaging or biopsies to figure out what’s really going on.

🔸 Addison’s Disease: When the adrenal glands aren’t producing enough hormones, symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, and low blood pressure can appear, but they’re easy to miss.

Each of these conditions reminds us why awareness, early testing, and community matter so much. No one should have to fight for answers alone. 💛

Today is World Psoriasis Day, so let’s talk about it!

Psoriasis is so much more than just a “skin thing.” It’s an autoimmune condition that can affect your skin, your confidence, and even your joints. Those itchy, scaly patches you might see? They can show up anywhere - and no, it’s not contagious.

For people living with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, every day can look a little different. Some days are manageable, others are tough, and most people just wish others understood what it’s really like.

At Lori, we’re all about that understanding. We’re here to make sure no one feels alone navigating autoimmune life and to build awareness around conditions that are too often misunderstood.

So today, let’s start the conversation.

Autoimmune diseases are on the rise, and the numbers are eye-opening. A UK study published in The Lancet, involving 22 million people, found that autoimmune disorders now affect about 1 in 10 individuals - that’s 13% of women and 7% of men.

The study also uncovered differences based on things like season, region, and lifestyle, giving us new clues into what might be driving these conditions.

But it’s not all doom and gloom! With more research, we’re learning so much more about how to manage autoimmune diseases and still live full, vibrant lives.

The truth is, many people don’t even know they’re living with an autoimmune condition - so it’s more important than ever to listen to your body and advocate for yourself.

Your symptoms are valid. Your experience matters.💛

If there is one podcast you want to be listening to this month, it’s this one 🙌🏼👌🏼

It took about six months to adjust to her new reality after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Six months of uncertainty, trial and error, and trying to figure out what actually worked for her.

Six months can feel like a lifetime when you’re trying to navigate a new normal, and that’s exactly why she created Lori - a community where people living with autoimmune conditions can learn from each other, find trusted information faster, and even test out wellness products for free.

Asmaa built what she wished had existed when she was first diagnosed, a space filled with understanding, honesty, and real support.

If you’ve been recently diagnosed or just want to be part of a community that gets it, Lori’s here for you 💛
