Our in-house Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) are key to helping the people we support find their voice and stay safe when eating and drinking.

Through evidence-based approaches, they:

✔️ Support safe, comfortable eating and drinking - including dysphagia care delivered with dignity

✔️ Develop personalised communication strategies, enabling individuals to express themselves in ways that feel natural

This work is fundamental to building independence, expanding opportunities and reducing social isolation.

The team have recently strengthened our approach with:

🔹 A dedicated communication passport caseload

🔹 Regular, risk-based dysphagia reviews (every 3, 6 or 12 months)

And to support our teams on the ground, they’ve introduced weekly SLT drop-in sessions. Open to all staff, these informal sessions offer practical advice on communication, dysphagia and person-led support - whether it’s a quick question or a deeper conversation.

This year’s Influencers and Champions Day was filled with meaningful conversations - and just as many special moments!

From the energy in the room to the shared laughter, the day was a true reflection of what makes Liaise so special: people coming together, listening deeply, and celebrating the power of lived experience.

Throughout the day, we captured some lovely moments – Champions exchanging ideas, Influencers proudly showcasing their work, and colleagues taking the time to truly listen and learn from one another.

These are the moments that drive the progress we see every day. Moments where voices are heard, ideas take shape, and people come together to shape the support they both receive and deliver.

We’re excited to share a few highlights from the day with you...

Our Influencers are people we support who share their ideas, experiences, and views to help shape what we do at Liaise. One thing they were really excited about was health and wellbeing - especially creating a healthy recipe guide to share with others across Liaise.

To make this happen, our Influencers got stuck in and had lots of fun in the kitchen, trying out, testing, and perfecting their favourite healthy recipes. Earlier this month, they proudly launched their community cookbook, created by and for the people we support.

We’re so pleased to share the cookbook and it’s been lovely to see new recipes coming in from across Liaise. Even better, people have been cooking along, sharing their dishes, and helping the cookbook keep growing!

You can find the cookbook here:

We love celebrating learning and development across Liaise – and achievements like Ellie and Iain’s Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Adult Care really show what’s possible when people are supported to grow.

Launched in 2024, Liaise Academy is our central hub for professional development, bringing together vocational qualifications, accredited training, and clear pathways to leadership. With over 100 colleagues currently enrolled in apprenticeships, the Academy sits at the heart of our learning culture, helping colleagues build confidence, skills, and meaningful career progression.

By investing in our colleagues and their development, we’re not only supporting individual journeys – we’re also making sure we provide the very best person‑led support to the people we support every day.

Lindsay has been working toward an important personal goal: accessing her community with greater confidence. For a long time, social anxiety made leaving the house and travelling by car difficult. With consistent encouragement, reassurance, and support built around her needs and choices, Lindsay has made truly meaningful progress.

She is now more confident getting into the car, enjoys journeys, and clearly communicates her boundaries along the way (speed bumps are still a firm “no”!). These moments show Lindsay taking control and expressing her preferences, which is a huge step forward.

A major milestone in Lindsay’s journey is achieving her goal of having her own vehicle!

Moments like this remind us what person‑led support can achieve: more confidence, more choice, more independence.

Across Liaise, every home has a staff Champion who brings ideas and real experiences into conversations that help shape how we support people. Alongside our Champions, our Influencers – people supported by Liaise – share their lived experience to guide our thinking and influence how we work.

Yesterday, we brought our Influencers and Champions together for our annual Influencer and Champions Day, and it was a powerful reminder of the impact this partnership has.

Throughout the day, Champions shared meaningful stories from their homes, highlighting progress driven by what matters most to the people they support. These real examples showed the difference that listening, collaboration and truly person led support can make.

In the afternoon, we heard from our Influencers about the brilliant work they’ve been leading. This included the launch of the new Influencers Hub on our intranet – a space to share stories, places they’ve visited and useful resources – as well as the Influencers Community Cookbook, filled with recipes created by the people we support, for the people we support.

We ended the day with a Q&A led by our Influencers, giving colleagues the opportunity to hear first hand what it’s really like living in a Liaise home and how we can continue to ensure our support remains truly person led.

A huge thank you to our brilliant Influencers and Champions for the insight, energy and passion they bring every day!

We’ve been busy working alongside our brilliant Influencers as they plan activities for our upcoming Influencer and Champion Day next week!

Our Influencers are a group of people we support who share their experiences, ideas and perspectives to guide our thinking and help shape everything that we do at Liaise. One area they were keen to focus on was creating a healthy recipe guide that can be shared with others we support across Liaise.

To bring this to life, our Influencers have been rolling up their sleeves and getting creative in the kitchen, crafting and testing their favourite healthy dishes. We’re delighted to share Tina’s video guide, where she shows us how to make her delicious and much-loved spaghetti bolognese.

The recipe has been such a hit that Tina has even been teaching the people she lives with how to recreate it themselves – Gordon Ramsay, watch out!

We've been awarded a NorCA Star by the Norfolk Care Association, recognising the exceptional advocacy, professionalism, and commitment demonstrated by our team in East Anglia.

This award reflects a sustained period of dedicated support for an individual with highly complex needs. When the team began working with this individual, they identified opportunities to enhance quality of life through further assessment and review. Through ongoing engagement with external professionals and a strong commitment to person‑led care, the individual was reassessed, gaining access to appropriate equipment and increased opportunities to spend time outside of their room.

More recently, the individual experienced a decline in health and required an extended hospital admission. Throughout this time, the Liaise team provided consistent support, ensuring continuity of care, sharing their in‑depth knowledge of the individual, and working closely with clinical staff to support informed decision‑making and the individual’s best interests.

Alongside this, the wider team focused on preparing for the individual’s return home, thoughtfully redesigning their living environment to reflect their needs, preferences, and wellbeing.

This NorCA Star is a testament to the team’s dedication, perseverance, and unwavering belief in the people they support. We thank the Norfolk Care Association for recognising this work and for highlighting the vital role of professional advocacy in care.

Congratulations to John, our Deputy Leader at Willow Tree Lodge, who has achieved a Distinction in his Level 5 Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management in Adult Social Care 👏

This achievement marks a significant milestone in John’s professional journey. While continuing to support his team and balance work, study, and personal commitments, John demonstrated real dedication, resilience, and drive.

John also highlighted the encouragement he received from his manager and fellow apprentices, reflecting the importance of strong support networks and shared learning. At Liaise, we’re committed to investing in our people through the Liaise Academy, supporting professional development at every stage and helping colleagues grow into confident, capable leaders.

Well done, John - a fantastic achievement and an inspiration to others on their leadership journey 🌟
